Resources Stewardship Week Observed In Nebraska

May 23-30 designated for resource stewardship as Nebraskans pause to reflect on soil water and natural resources. Raymond Burke of the Upper Big Blue Natural Resources District notes churches in 59 areas will participate with services and homilies during Soil Stewardship Week.

Boys track team competes at District C-5 meet

The Norfolk district meet saw the boys finish 10th among 13 teams. Greg Cliffords placed fourth in pole vault at 10 feet 6 inches and Dave Herrmann fourth in shot put at 44 feet 6 inches. Rich Hayes and John Zelasney were fifth in the 880 and two mile run with times of 2 10 and 10 49.4. It was the final meet of the year for the team, with only two seniors remaining.

Osceola High School 1976 85th Commencement Set

Osceola High School will graduate 31 seniors at its 85th Commencement in the gym on Thursday May 20 at 8 pm. Valedictorian Christine Kresha and salutatorian Vicki Augustine lead a class chaired by Dr Ronald Joekel and Vernon Kuhnel. Recognition Night honored scholastic award recipients including Kresha, Augustine, Herrmann, Sterup, and Bryan with various scholarships. The Polk County Democratic convention is scheduled for June 1 at 8 pm at Osceola City Hall.

Eighth Graders Rewarded with Promotion Certificates

A class of 44 eighth grade students received promotion certificates on Recognition Night May 18 in the new school gym. Timothy Bachenberg won the History Award for the highest history average. The class party followed at Ryan Hill Country Club with a 6 30 dinner, a program, and a dance. Robbie Watts received a farewell gift as he moves to Imperial.

District 19 Board Sets Salaries and Approves Projects

At the May meeting District 19 Board of Education set salaries for aides coolies and bus drivers and approved a Kindergarten Readiness test. Principal Kenneth Sipes read the fire inspector report and the board approved fire blankets a extinguisher and a display case. A 400 meter track was set and Sipes to serve as board treasurer with the next meeting on June 14 at the high school.

Primary Election Results in Polk County Highlight Turnout

Polk County Clerk Dale Frizzell reported a May 11 primary turnout of about 56 percent with 914 Democrats 1215 Republicans and 50 Independents voting. Top results include Ford 559 Reagan 621 Proud 194 McCollister 875 Smith 848 DeCamp 296 and Carter 427 Church 327 Humphrey 46 Kennedy 27 Wallace 25 Udall 15.
