Graduation Festivities Close School Year With Banquet and Services

The year ends with the Junior-Senior Banquet on May 21 at the high school followed by Baccalaureate at the Methodist Church and Graduation Exercises at the New Mise Theatre. Decorations feature a black white and yellow ballroom theme.

Ulysses School Board Sets New First Grade Age Rule

The Ulysses Public Schools board adopts a new minimum age for first grade beginning this September. Pupils must be six years old or will be six before January 1. Officials hope the change reduces early grade failures and aligns ages in classrooms.

Polk County Eighth Grade Promotion Exercises Held in Osceola

The Polk County Eighth Grade Promotion will take place Friday May 21 1937 at 2 00 p m at the Muse Theatre Osceola. The program includes a teachers chorus processional invocation and selections by the district 68 2nd to 4th grades diploma presentation and recessional with seats reserved for parents and open to the public.

Osceola Park Board Adds Two Members To Board

Osceola City Council added W S Calhoun and Arthur Bintz to the Park Board to handle growing duties. The board named Calhoun as chairman of Park Grounds and Bintz of Tennis Court, with W W Norton to oversee the Swimming Pool to open in June.

Biology class visits Kuenzli Museum in Osceola

Osceola High School biology students toured the Kuenzli Museum on May 13 guided by a courteous curator. Highlights included butterflies from multiple continents, tropical birds, snakes and lizards, and a firearms collection showing weapon development from the tenth century to modern times.

May C Veach born in Rolla Missouri October 21 1861 died May 12 1937 at her daughter's home in Osceola after a brief illness. Survived by four children Mrs Victor Berggren John Veach Ray and Frank and one sister Mrs Jennie Norling. Funeral services were held in Beatrice with burial in Beatrice cemetery. Frank unable to attend.

Steele-Watts Wedding at Osceola Methodist Church

Miss Wilmetta Steele daughter of Mr and Mrs W C Steele of Polk wed Merle J Watts son of Mr and Mrs H L Watts of Osceola in a candlelight ceremony at 4 p m in Osceola. Rev Con Hewitt officiated before 65 guests with pastel decor and lilac arrangements. The bridal party included Dorothy Headman as maid of honor and Orpha Faye Phillips as flower girl, with Merle Backlund as ring bearer and Robert Timm as best man. A reception followed in the church parlors and the couple will reside in Osceola after a brief Kansas City trip.

C M Humphrey chairs the Polk County First Aid and Life Saving Committee and awards First Aid Certificates to Osceola group members Harry Pratt Arthur Scholz Leonard Fellows O A Holtzen Hugh Johnson Ivar Oberg Harold Rogers Harold Johnson Stromsburg group Harold B Barber Curtis Johnson Harold Swan Ray Steever Vernon Steever. Charles D Hastings instructed the class and received a Certificate of Instructorship for the Special Course by Dr R L Schroeder. Certificates enable installation of First Aid Stations at highways and gasoline stations. more than ninety have qualified in the Standard First Aid Course across various local occupations. Red Grass First Aid remains a voluntary neighbor to neighbor emergency service.

Quiet Osceola resident Charles A. Klose dies at 63

Charles A. Klose, born 1874 in Monticello Minnesota, died at 63 after moving to Osceola Nebraska nine years ago. He left son Laurence and two sisters Mrs Louise Duetch and Mrs Annie Welke of Anacortes Washington. A reserved hotel resident, he was remembered as kind and courteous. Funeral services were held Sunday at 10 a m Kepner Mortuary with Rev Monkman officiating. Interment followed in Osceola Cemetery.

Milk cooling tank demonstration near Victor School

A meeting is set for Tuesday May 25 at 1 30 p m on Dwight Newcomer’s farm east of Victor School in Hackberry precinct. Wayne Thurman will lead a demonstration of a portable milk cooling tank to show its efficiency and compatibility with farm refrigerators. Farmers and home-makers are invited to attend.

Augustana Male Quartet Set for Osceola Concert

The Augustana College quartet from Rock Island Illinois will perform Tuesday evening June 15 at St Pauls Lutheran in Osceola Nebraska under Luther League sponsorship. Critics rate them among the finest collegiate quartets and their tour aims to meet demand in new regions. They have gained national exposure via radio broadcasts and extended summer touring.
