Ivan Hastings son of Mr and Mrs W D Hastings from near Osceola received a 1 Superior rating in the national music contest held in Lawrence Kansas last Friday He is a Silver Creek high school student and saxophone soloist in the high school band He also won the district contest at Albion and the state contest at Hastings

Shower Honors Bride-To-Be Miss Willmetta Steele

Dorothy Headman and Jean Backlund hosted a miscellaneous shower in Osceola for Miss Willmetta Steele. The Corn Palace Cafe Marty Room featured May colors, bridge games with high score by Mrs. E. J. Thompson and a traveling prize for Miss Gertrude Matheson. Large balloons carried verses guiding the bride to her gifts. Refreshments followed late.

Funeral for Mrs Martha Gerber Held at M E Church

Funeral services were held Tuesday in the M E Church for Mrs Martha Gerber who died Friday at her daughter Grace Johnsons home after a long illness. She was 68 and survived by several daughters with interment in Stromsburg cemetery.

Lincoln Police Notify Goodrich Family of Scarlet Fever Quarantine

Lincoln police paused a pleasure trip to relay quarantine news to the C. C. Goodrich family of Stromsburg. While en route to relatives in Wymore the Goodriches learned their Wymore relatives were quarantined for scarlet fever and were notified by a motorcycle officer on O street after Mr. Goodrich phoned from Stromsburg.

Lincoln Telephone rebuilds line between Osceola and Rising City

The Lincoln Telephone and Telegraph Company starts rebuilding a tall line between Osceola and Rising City. The route runs 50 feet from the road center with 528 new poles and 537 removed, plus 70 miles of copper and 108 miles of iron wire to be strung. Foreman Foster leads seven men and L W Valentines hole diggers at Osceola headquarters. After poles are set, Foreman McDowell and crew will string the wire from David City to Osceola. Completion is expected by August 1.
