The final week of school featured the Senior Class play Nothing But the Truth with a large audience at the school. On Sunday evening the Baccalaureate Exercises were held at the Methodist Church with a full program and delighted relatives and friends.
A class of thirty six will receive high school diplomas at the Auditorium in the commencement program tonight. Attor ney C Petrus Peterson will deliver the address. The procession features Walton pieces and choral numbers with diplomas presented by the Board of Education president. Tomorrow class picnics are planned within county limits. The American League of Good Will hosts a dinner at First Methodist church in Omaha next Thursday with several speakers and 500 seats available. Thos E Barr notes Osceola honor. local residents Mr and Mrs Ben McCormick, and C M Humphrey were Sunday visitors in York.
Governor McMullen proclaims May 31 Memorial Day. Osceola American Legion plans observances, with a union memorial service May 30 at the Presbyterian church and Decoration Day program at the Auditorium featuring an address by Attorney Lowell Walker. Poppy sales support hospitalized veterans and Nebraska units.
Stromsburg High School held commencement at the Methodist Church for the class of 1926 with Adrien Newas of Lincoln delivering the address. The event marked Stromsburg’s largest graduating class tied to a 39th annual Alumni Association reception at Scott Hall drawing about 200 alumni and featuring A F Nuquist and Emil J Anderson as notable attendees.
Osceola will consolidate routes four and five reducing rural routes to four. Route four, 43 miles, will be served by Delmar W. McFadden with a 8:45 AM departure and 1:30 PM return by auto. Route five ends, former carrier William B. Carson obituary noted, replaced by Jay W. Carson before illness.
After a busy term school plans set for an elaborate picnic dinner tomorrow at Stoner District No 2 hosted by mothers and teacher Mrs Mabel Wolpert who will also teach next year. Howard Adams family visited Ulysses Sunday and Grace Swan visited Lincoln relatives before returning to the city. Mrs B F Brown was a Sunday guest at the E J Brown home. Miles Ransom family visited Oscar Hedberg’s. Henry Zang joined A F Nuquist and wife for Stromsburg alumni banquet with about 200 graduates. Victor Davis visited James Davis Sunday.
The annual Womans Club meeting at the high school installed officers led by Mrs. Wim. Merrick as installation officer. New officers include President Mrs. T. E. Barr and Vice President Mrs. A. F. Nuquist with other roles filled. a gav el gift from Mrs. Merrick and a brief program followed. The Art Craft Dept elected officers for the coming year and invites dues from interested members.
County commissioners of Polit and Platte counties meet in Columba s yesterday to decide the Platte River bridge south of Duncan is beyond repair. They seek state aid for construction with the state paying half and each county a quarter. State Engineer Cochran plans a site visit next week.
Roy Parks and his family were on the valley Sunday for a community outing. The family enjoyed a relaxing day in the sun and arranged plans for upcoming local events.
The Golden Rod Sewing Club met at Swede Home hall on Saturday May 8 with nineteen members. The program included readings vocal duets piano solo wardrobe booklet demonstration and delegates chosen for club week. Refreshments were served and the next gathering is set for May 22 at Haskel Gustafsons.
Lambert Emanuel Johnson born March 31 1894 Stromsburg died last Monday at age 32 after long heart trouble. He lived with his mother and siblings on a Stromsburg area farm and was deeply mourned by family. Funeral at the Swedish Free Church with Rev E H Lindquist and Rev Beck. burial in Stromsburg cemetery.
W E Snider and family depart Osceola on May 27 for a Southern vacation. They will attend Christian College in Columbia Missouri for the Diamond Jubilee graduation of their daughter Pauline on May 29 and Keith will join the Commencement Ball at Kemper Military School in Booneville. Afterward they will visit the Ozark Mountains and Van Buren Arkansas, returning about June 15 with Pauline.
The Nebraska Gas and Electric Co extends an optional residence plan for Osceola customers using electricity for cooking or refrigeration. It features a 50 cent service charge plus tiered kWh rates with lower off peak charges and a minimum four room requirement. Mr. Humphrey notes the rate reflects diverse home power use and is compatible with existing lighting rates, allowing customers to stay on current rates or switch to the new option.
Lou Frazier in Fairmont Chronicle says Bryan falsely blames Gov McMullen for ending state gasoline sales. The Nebraska Supreme Court ruled the practice illegal and accused Bryan of misusing state funds to maintain the state filling station in Case No. 24 419.
The spelling championship cup went to Maryan Shelmadine for being the top speller in high school. Her semester spelling average reached a perfect 100 percent, an exceptionally high achievement.
