Memorial Sunday and Decoration Day Services

Memorial Sunday services will be held at the Presbyterian Church next Sunday at 11 o clock. G A R Hall gathers members at 10 45. Decoration Day on Monday May 31 at 2 PM Osceola Auditorium and cemetery services. G A R W R C Spanish American Veterans American Legion and Auxiliary meet 1 30. Firing squad in uniform. Program includes Lincoln Gettysburg Address and Lowell Walker address.

Funeral of John L. Morrison in Iowa noted

Local notice recalls John L. Morrison’s funeral held in Tabor Iowa after his death in Duluth Minnesota. Morrison once taught in Polk County in the 1880s and wrote for The Record under editor D M Butler. He later led a Duluth paper The Rip Saw.

Maple Leaf Club Holds May Meeting and Plans Delegates

The Maple Leaf Club met at Mrs. Ethel McCormick’s home on May 20, 1926, with 15 members and 3 visitors. They decided to send 37 delegates to Recreation Camps and reported about $39 raised from a Food Sale for the Fair Grounds building. The next meeting will be hosted by Mrs. Mary Miller.

Wesley Chapel Woman's Club met on May 19 at Olive Hayhurst’s home with 19 members and 7 visitors. The program featured a local achievement day and a pleasant lunch followed. the group planned to reconvene with Violet Laft on June 3.

Eighth grade exercises mark largest Polk class ever

On June 3 at Osceola Auditorium, R. W. Eaton of Omaha will deliver an illustrated lecture on Hiawatha as Polk County confirms its largest eighth grade class with 207 students. The list names graduates by district, including rural and town students, with many individuals across districts. Judge Landis Holder presided, finalizing three divorces and other minor matters.

Stoner Club Plans Ice Cream Social at Stoner School

The Stoner Club met with Mrs Lizzie Sharritt and Mrs Abbia. A Mother’s Day program was given followed by luncheon for seventeen members and visitors. They set an ice cream social for Friday evening May 28 at the Stoner School house to raise funds for a new club building on the fairgrounds.
