Eighth Grade Promotion Exercises Planned at Muse Theatre

The Eighth Grade Promotion Exercises will be held Saturday at the Muse Theatre in Osceola at 2 pm. The program includes a processional, songs, invocations, flag salute, chalk talk, solos, a clarinet piece, a declaration by Dr. H. E. Bradford, diploma presentation, field day awards, and a benediction.

Osceola Drops Opener to Stromsburg in Sloppy Game

Osceola baseball opened the season with an 11 to 7 loss to Stromsburg before a small crowd. Errors plagued both teams with Osceola players at fault mainly. Quick pitched for Osceola and was hit hard before Fredrickson relieved him. Everett Anderson threw well for Stromsburg.

Peter Erick Shostrom obituary marks life in Polk County

Peter Erick Shostrom born March 8 1862 in Gestrickland Sweden died May 10 1988 aged 76 years 2 months and 2 days. He came to America at six settled in Kewanee Illinois then Nebraska and Polk County. He married Sophia Adelson December 20 1886 and had six children. A faithful Methodist and community builder he helped with farms schools and churches. He and Sophia celebrated a Golden Wedding on December 20 1936. He suffered a stroke May 3 and died a week later leaving wife four sons Dana Henry Willie and I two daughters Mable and Amelia Flodman seven grandchildren and many friends.

York honors composer J A Parks on 75th birthday program

Citizens of York plan a May 22 celebration in United Brethren church to honor composer J A Parks. The York Male Chorus of 19 voices will perform his secular and religious works, with local musicians, at 3 30 pm. A 15 minute broadcast over KFAB will air part of the program at 4 45 pm for nonattending listeners.

Steve Siemek had an appendectomy Tuesday morning. Richard Malek underwent an appendectomy Friday evening. Ruth Wyman returned home near Silver Creek after weeks of treatment. A baby boy weighing 7 1 2 pounds was born Thursday May 12 to Mr. and Mrs Earl Richards. Irvin Kepner was discharged after a week as a medical patient. David Ermand, son of Mr. and Mrs Ermand Kath of Gresham, was born Tuesday May 17 at the hospital. Robert Fischer remains a patient showing some improvement.

Fairview Socials Include Visits and Revivals

Mr and Mrs Merritt Clark and daughter Marylin of Colorado Springs arrived Thursday evening to spend days with Mrs Clark s mother Mrs Millie Daniels and their relatives. Lillie Carlson of Omaha visited her parents. Local gatherings included dinners with Rev John Herrman and others. Riverside held a Sunday school picnic. Fairview Church hosted Miss Lillian Crouse and Miss Kar lene Birt from Pasadena for a full Gospel service. A revival series is planned in Missouri.

Last Friday May 13 Osceola High School juniors and sponsor Miss Carlson held a nautical style banquet in the school gym for seniors and faculty.
