A traveling seller with no license sold potato peelers at 15 cents in stores then offered them for 50 cents in homes, depleting local stock. A merchant warned him to quit town after learning of the unlicensed practice, reported by Sutton News.
Warren Rasmussen son of Mr and Mrs Irvin Rasmussen played with the Lincoln Symphony Orchestra on NBC Saturday afternoon in Pioneers in Music. A Nebraska University sophomore he performs bassoon in the symphony and tenor saxophone in band work at Central City Republican.
Governor Val Peterson outlined plans to pave Nebraska highway No. 91 from Scribner to its junction with No. 2 at Dun ning. The program relies on gasoline tax and license fee legislation. An effort seeks three miles between Highway 15 and Clarkson Colfax County.
The Central City Nonpareil reports meters will be installed within 30 to 45 days along Highway 30 through the Central City business district.
The Ulysses baseball season moves to the newly prepared grounds with backstops installed and the field laid out using tractors and implements. The first game is slated for Sunday at the new venue.
At the last meeting the village board paid off the final $500 of water warrants leaving Brainard debt free. Over the past year $5,000 in debts was cleared according to the David City Banner. Maxwell voters head to the polls June 1 to decide a $26,000 municipal auditorium with approval threshold set at 60 percent of last general election voters, per the Lincoln County Tribune.
A small cyclone struck Tuesday causing a building collapse, uprooting trees and minor damage. One woman suffered a heart attack when the twister blew open the door of her home, reported by the St Paul Phon ograph.
Robert Smith a Lara mie Wyoming High junior won the $5.00 first prize in the American Region Oratorical Contest with an oration on What Democracy Means To Me. He placed in the state contest and is the son of Mr and Mrs Glenn Smith who once ran the Farmers Union Store in Osceola. The family now lives at 357 West Sheridan in Laramie where Mr Smith works as a locomotive fireman and the couple operate a grocery business.
Gregg Long two years old of Grand Island presents roses to Mrs. Truman during a stop in Grand Island Nebraska and delivers a brief speech on behalf of the boys and girls of Grand Island. He is the grandson of Mr and Mrs Hugh Schmoker of Osceola.
Mrs O F Branting was honored at a Mother's Day dinner marking her 80th birthday anniversary which occurred on Tuesday. Attendees included Norwood Creekpaum Ellen Branting of Omaha H B Branting DeAnn Anna Ekstrom Kermit Branting Milrae Amanda Elfors Stromsburg Ray Branting Medy Phyllis Marguerite Senn.
Next week marks completion of high school work for 27 Osceola High School seniors. Fifteen boys and twelve girls will receive diplomas at the Commencement Exercises Tuesday night at the school auditorium. Exercises begin at 8 00. Programs for the Baccalaureate and Commencement are listed.

The class of 1925 of OHS plans a reunion in Osceola on Sunday, June 18. Since many addresses are unknown, any member not notified is urged to write Ruth Brown Kier at 1643 Dahlia, Denver 7, Colorado for details.
Clara Marie Plebanek and Alois J. Shemek were married in St. Stanislaus Catholic Church Duncan on May 9 at 8 30 am. Rev Fr George Mikulski officiated with music from Ven Cosimieras and soloist Mrs Robert Baker. The bridal party wore yellow gowns as together they formed a detailed pageant with lace and Chantilly trim.
Ninety five Polk County eighth graders will receive diplomas at the Osceola high school auditorium Saturday afternoon May 20. The program features district bands, colors, a reading, several musical numbers, and a diploma presentation by Supt. Olive M. McBeth.

All Osceola High School alumni and former teachers are invited to an Alumni Banquet and Dance at the Osceola School Auditorium on May 26. Guests may attend. Dinner at 6:30 and dancing from 9 to 1. Admission is $1.75. Reserve with Mrs. D. R. Byers by May 19. Formal or informal attire allowed.
Philip H. Nyberg filed last week on the Republican ticket for the office of County Attorney, listed as the incumbent.

Sunday callers at the Social Center Rest Home included the Conklings Moore Russells Steever Cook and Dunning families. The Friendly Neighbors met with Mrs Sterrup. Several families visited Fullerton Hastings and Columbus for anniversaries Mother's Day and meals. Relatives visited from Springfield Omaha and Syracuse with updates on flood areas and homecomings.
Polk County Extension News reports the Shelby Horse Show date advanced from May 26 to May 23 with five classes and three placings each: Women’s Western Pleasure, Children's Pony under 48 inches, Palomino, Solid Color, and Spotted Horse, plus Barrel Race and Rescue Race.
In the Central Nebraska League opener, Fullerton defeated Osceola 10 to 7 on a rainy day full of fielding errors. Osceola led until late, as Hafemeister and Grossnicklaus relieved Toline, with Hafemeister charged with the loss. Fullerton broke loose in the eighth and ninth, while Osceola added spikes in the second sixth and eighth. Attendance was strong and mothers were admitted free. Osceola heads to St Edward next Sunday.
Mr and Mrs Roy C Johnson celebrated their Silver Wedding on Sunday May 7 with many relatives present including N E LeSner J P Johnson Mervin Johnson and families. Daughters Mer vin Johnson and Mary Ann Johnson hosted lunch. A seventh birthday for Roy Jr was noted on May 6.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon for the infant son of Mr and Mrs Keith McMeekin. Rev C F Wantz conducted the service using the Children’s Funeral Rites of the E U B church. Sympathy is extended to the bereaved parents in their loss.
