The Cerny farm garage near Osceola was entered last Monday night and a back license plate stolen. Sheriff Peterson was notified. A call from Dunning Nebraska revealed escaped Lincoln penitentiary convicts had been captured there driving a car with a Polk County plate, later found stolen at Seward and bearing Cerny’s plate.
Osceola hosts York on May 26 and Aug 17 with Central City on July 20. Stromsburg plays at home against York June 15 and Aug 10 while Utica visits on June 8 and July 31.
Osceola took the league opener 5 to 4 at Central City as Wharmeister pitched the win and Surheri allowed six Osceola hits. Hafemeister, Hmmons and Schmoker produced extra base hits while York visits May 25 for the first home game following Aurora’s 4–0 loss to Stromsburg.
Lincoln couple Mr and Mrs Paul R Eyland visited Osceola for Mother's Day with Mrs D Huston and family. Stoner Club plans a May 21 meeting with Mrs Maurice Watts. Laurence Meister, Gary Lux families and Willian Urban relatives joined Mrs Urban in Fremont for Mother's Day. Francis Urban and son from Monroe also attended.
The high school baseball team beat Silver Creek 10 to 4 last Tuesday, extending their season streak to four consecutive wins with no defeats so far.
Osceola grocery changes name to Jack and Jill this week. New equipment and several new departments have been added. A gala opening is planned for this weekend per another notice in the paper.

The Nebraska City Fort Kearny cut off was a vital pioneer shortcut saving miles west of the Missouri. Used first in 1858 by Russell Majors and Waddell for a Utah bound government freight contract, it shifted from the Ox Bow trail to a direct route via Fort Kearny. By 1863 heavy wagon traffic wore the cut into deep ruts, proving its significance for overland freight and Nebraska City growth.
The third Blue Rock Shoot of the season took place at the fair grounds on May 11. A gold silver and leather medal contest is set for May 25, weather permitting. The sport draws growing interest and invites new members and spectators to enjoy a clean sport.

Mother's Day breakfast for married ladies of St. Vincent Parish featured hosts the parish men who planned and prepared the meal and program. John Staroscik served as toastmaster while Helen Jenn Janice Schott played piano solos and duet. August Ienn Morris Tenn tuy Ball and Father Howe provided selections. Peg Staroscik read and Mrs Florence Gallagher of York advised the gathering.
A seven o clock dinner shower was held Thursday evening at Mrs. Radney C. Larsen home in Stromsburg for Mary Elaine Carlson who will marry soon. Hostesses were Sophia Kresha and Dorothy Donelson. gifts were given to the honoree. Guests included Mrs. Horace Stevens Mrs. Harold A. Nelson Mrs. Herman Eklund Mrs. Bert Gissler Mrs. Edith Heilman Mrs. W. R. Donelson Rudolph Carlson Jo Ann Ramona Swanson Dorothy Boden and others. Dance produced high score for Mrs. Rudolph Carlson.

Delores Croisant and teachers plan a Sunday picnic at Buckley Park to end the term. Other groups schedule picnics and meetings through May and a WSOS convention trip to Ord.ills
W H Fulwider and Nick Gerdes traveled to South Dakota on a fishing tip this week. Over a hundred ladies attended the Methodist WSCS Tea and Book Review at the church Friday afternoon. District 18 households from near Columbus and Silver Creek are listed hosting and visiting relatives. The roster includes Mr and Mrs Arthur Mayhberg, Mr and Mrs Edward Lisko, Mr and Mrs David Scow, Mr and Mrs Leo Lassek, Miss Betty Micek, and Mrs Chet Wells among others visiting family in Columbus Silver Creek Omaha Lincoln and Shelby.
The WSCS will host a Mother's Day meeting at Hazel Brown's home on May 22. Clans of Ernst Columbus Alfred Grossnicklaus Central City Schmoker and Huggler gathered at Tom Schmoker's home to mark Chris Hruggler Jr.’s 85th birthday. Guests included Jack Trennary of Omaha and Walter Koehler family, with numerous other local visitors and district delegates attending various events in the area.

The Junior and Senior Classes and faculty of the high school hosted a Hawaiian themed banquet in the gym. Freshmen girls served as waitresses in island-style costumes while Logan Van Hoosen acted as toastmaster. The Methodist Church ladies prepared the meal.

John Edward Anderson born August 12 1867 in Sweden came to Hastings Nebraska then Beatrice. He married Matilda Wolfe Willmschen on August 12 1896 and had five children. He died May 8 1947 after strokes and a long illness at age 79 in Clarks living with his son Oscar and family.
