The Parent Teachers Association sponsors a day of fun for the entire school community with activities and refreshments. Local families are invited to participate and enjoy a diverse program organized by volunteers.
Announcement by the Issues and Mothers committee invites families to a home and school picnic on Friday May 18 at 10 30 am. Meet at the school building to gather transport for those without conveyance. Bring a cup and spoon for the meal and enjoy games and prizes. Sundown of May 18, 1923 noted for a special day of fun.
At a special PTA meeting the Osceola school community plans a single joint picnic for all grades and the high school. The event on May 18 will feature field events and prizes, with business houses asked to close briefly for the program.
The First M. E. Church plans a Mother's Day sermon suited to the occasion. No evening service will follow the Baccalaureate address, with Rev. W. Hull serving as pastor.
Mrs Robert McBeth and her daughter Varine were in a buggy hit by Arthur Herrmanns car east of the Bartlett farm. Mrs McBeth suffered back injuries, Varine bruises, the buggy wrecked and the horse ran away toward home. Mr Herrmann took them to their home for medical care after the crash following the Junior Senior banquet in Osceola. Mr and Mrs Merrick were passengers to Lincoln today.
Senior class picnic at Seward and numerous town visits mark the week. births, marriages, property transactions, and upcoming graduations fill the page with community life including a baccalaureate at M E church and a senior class play during graduation week.
Everett Reece and Rasmus Krumbach paint their houses while Fred Oesterreicher buys a Ford runabout from Reece garage. Osceola and Platte Center visitors attend events, with church and town business noted. A town marshal and street commissioner are chosen, and a community gathering at Wesley Chapel features a shower and a varied program.
The Baccalaureate sermon will be delivered at the Auditorium next Sunday evening at 8 00 o clock and observed as a union church service Rev Thor E Barr of the Presbyterian church will deliver the sermon and an attractive program of music is being arranged.
Jane Joy daughter of Arthur and Susie Carson was born November 18 1921 and died May 1 1923. She filled hearts with sorrow and joy in a brief life and is mourned by family. Funeral service was at the grandparents Ford and Mrs Augustine home conducted by Rev C E Ruch of Shelby and burial followed at Blue Ridge cemetery with many friends present.
The Osceola Band gave a fine mid week program to a good crowd. The local organization promises growing popularity as the concert tradition continues. The Osceola Band performs at the courthouse steps every Wednesday evening.
E D Fillman sold a Studebaker coupe to Sheriff Van Hoosen this week. The north gate of the cemetery wrecked months ago by William Johnson of Benedict has been replaced. W F Kepner sent the bill for repairs totaling 54 dollars to Mr Johnson. Wilber M Johnston will mail hospital fund notices to contributors about a meeting to decide disposal of the site since the option to erect a hospital expired April 1 1923. Nels Nelson visited Stromsburg and friends Sunday. Anderson Moore of Ashton Idaho arrived Thursday from Vallisca Ta to visit relatives with Mrs Mary Moore and Mrs Lulu Egelhoff and left Monday morning homeward.

A college program features the Modern Son and The Sorority Singers during the fifth day program. An Eve event includes the College Prelude Address The Challenge of Peney by Hon Josephus Daniels.
The Prize Pageant features "Her Family On Display" with Young People and Junior Director. Edgar Murray appears as Abraham Lincoln in Lincoln's Life and Love with Ralph Kettering in The Great Commoner and Joseph D. Reed as General Grant.

It claims to be the most modern expensive and beautiful setup yet and notes over 32600 already spent on equipment for Super Six Assemblies touring Central West counties. Abraham Lincoln is highlighted as a symbol of justice mercy and equal rights and the Lincoln play is billed as a powerful educational experience for both adults and youth.
Miss Ethel Dunn of San Francisco wins the 150 prize offered by Chautauqua managers for the best pageant submitted for presentation this summer. Dunn, formerly with the Standard Chautauqua System of Lincoln Nebraska, is noted as junior director of children. Her pageant Her Family on Display portrays The Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe and her family of Scouts Camp Fire Girls Junior Townsmen before Uncle Sam. The pageant will be presented in every town visited by Standard Chautauqua System this summer.
The text urges full flag display on Mother’s Day May 13 as designated by Congress and presidential proclamation. It notes government duty to display on buildings and citizens to display at home or other places, referencing a 1914 resolution by the 65th Congress and the President’s proclamation.
McNeal won the shot put at Seward with 41 ft 5 in. Art Green was fourth in High Jump. Cotton Johnson finished second in Low Hurdles and fourth in Discus. Friday Watts took second in the mile. At Hastings one man placed McNeal third in Shot Put with 40 ft 10 in. The team heads to Lincoln for the State Meet under the University.
Last Friday morning four year old Manon Farris daughter of Mr and Mrs Ben Ferris was severely scalded when she fell into a pan of hot water in the yard. She suffered burns to the hips and limbs but is now improving with good recovery prospects. The pan was left on the floor and the child entered the house unnoticed before crying out.
John Ogden bought the Addison property in Osceola and now owns a premier home. The remodel includes a new foundation, a fully finished basement, interior updates, a roomy veranda and rear porch, modern conveniences, and broad cement walks surrounding the property.
Seven year old Marjorie Dunn, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bert Dunn, was thrown from a crowded buggy in Dist 37 as children left school. The horse started, the wheel ran over her head, cutting the scalp and causing minor injuries. She was reported to be recovering.
The city council awarded the contract for dragging streets grading crossings and other tasks to Wm Harrison at Friday’s meeting. The eight month job costs 120 dollars per month and Harrison plans to hire another team and driver for the expected workload.
Osceola schools wrap a record class of 42 graduates with senior play Baccalaureate commencement May Fete and festival at City Park May 15. Teachers praise staff and students as they enter vacation, with May Day programs led by Nan Nyberg and Blanch Bailey and campus performances at the high school auditorium.
