Osceola loses the opening baseball game of the season at the fair grounds to Utica by a 5 1 score. Utica’s Greystein twirled an impressive mound performance while Osceola fumbled defensively and made costly errors. Herrmann pitched well for Osceola but the group could not overcome the early mistakes and promise a stronger showing next week against Aurora.

Wright Malek Engagement Announced in Osceola

Mr and Mrs Appler Wright announce the engagement of their daughter Ruth Noi Wright to Richard Vern Malek son of Mr and Mrs George Malek Osceola. A summer wedding is planned. Wright attends Iowa State College Ames in home economics and is in Kappa Kappa Gamma. Malek served in the Army Air Force in England and studied at the University of Nebraska and Iowa State College in engineering.

Former Minister's Wife Buried in Edgar Nebraska

Funeral services were held in Edgar Nebraska on Friday for Mrs W W Hull 80 who died Tuesday after a stroke at a Fairbury hospital. She lived in Osceola two decades ago when Rev Hull led the local Methodist Church and the couple had since resided in Edgar with him serving the Edgar church.

Ed Brown Dies at 64 After Long Illness

Edward Brown son of Cyrus and Margaret Brown was born in Cu County Missouri November 25. He married Tussi Johnston on October 14 1922 and had five children two daughters and three sons. The funeral was held at the Methodist Church Tuesday afternoon with Rev. G A Randell presiding and he is buried in Osceola cemetery.

National Home Demonstration Week Observed Across U S

Three and a half million rural women and families nationwide mark National Home Demonstration Week May 5 to 12 with exhibits tours meetings and radio programs showing 33 years of rural family living progress. In Polk County clubs began in 1918 and 1919 with Charter Members named and early demonstrations including dress forms and millinery. The Polk County Livestock Improvement Association reports a record April for Glen MacQueen registered Holstein herd at Silver Creek with ten cows serviced in thirty days. April totals show 152 services: 71 new, 42 second breedings, 21 third breedings and 18 extra breedings. Inseminator served 82 of 202 membership forms, averaging 138.7 miles per breeding. Women estimate savings from doing the work themselves between four and thirty five dollars.

Rat work report targets Polk County farms

Art Deeter and Olie Johansen used Extension Office gas equipment on burrows under a small hog house. They counted 34 dead rats from the outer boundary and seek to determine how many lie beneath the center. The office offers equipment to farmers at cost with a first day free. The county distributes Federal mixed poison bait to clean up rats and protect grain.

Under Miss Rizpah Douglass guidance a Lincoln Home Improvement Specialist, a group of women held a two day clinic at Osceola High School and repaired seven chairs. Springs were retied webbing padding and upholstery replaced. The oldest rocker belonged to Mrs Fred Bond's great great grandmother.
