Doremus Miller Wed In Osceola Church Ceremony

Florent Ruth Miller daughter of Mr and Mrs Frank Miller of Osceola married Victor M Doremus of Polk in an afternoon service April 24 at German Valley Methodist Church near Osceola. Music by Mrs Willard Carter and Norman Carter featured the tunes O Promise Me. The bride wore a fuchsia suit with blue accessories and a pearl choker. Attendant Ramona Gail John wore a beige suit with brown accessories. Best man was William Blender and guests were seated by James and Ralph Doremus. A reception for about fifty followed at the bride’s parents home in Osceola. The couple will reside on a farm east of Polk.

Achievement Day Draws Polk County Club Members

A large crowd attended the Achievement Day program held by 14 Polk County Home Demonstration Clubs at Stromsburg High School. The event featured a pageant honoring charter members, musical numbers, and a recognition service. Mrs. J. B. Heckman died at 46, with funeral in Osceola. Richard A. Matheson posthumously awarded the Purple Heart for actions aboard the U.S.S. Indianapolis in 1945.

County Extension News shows septic demo in Gresham area

Polk County farmers attended a septic tank construction demonstration near Gresham on April 24 as part of a cooperative Extension Service effort with Butler and York counties. Four Polk County farm sites are planned for demonstrations with rental equipment at $3 per setting. A Jersey cattle judging session by the Blue Ribbon 4 H Dairy Club discussed plans for Deshler on May 4. Women visited homes to improve kitchen layouts guided by Mary Runnals with tips on equipment placement for storage, refrigeration, serving, cleaning and cooking.

Osceola fans will see postwar baseball Sunday as the Osceola team meets Utica at the fair grounds for the Cornhusker League opener. The 2:30 p.m. game marks Osceola’s first season appearance with a hopeful turnout of local supporters.

Consumers Annual Report Shows Healthy Progress

The 1945 annual report for Consumers Public Power District shows earnings of 1.65 and 1.73 times debt service for the Eastern and Western Systems, with kilowatt hour sales up 6.3 percent. Revenue slipped 0.65 percent as higher usage coincided with rate reductions and war production cutbacks, yet residential and rural customers posted gains. Total 1945 gross revenue reached $7,268,409. diversification of sales and district-wide changes influenced totals and tax allocations.

Arvid Anderson Dies by Own Hand in Osceola

Arvid Eugene Anderson 62 a longtime Osceola resident died by hanging in a barn near his home. Ill health and a nervous breakdown preceded his death on April 28, 194? with survivors including his wife three children a California based extended family and several siblings. Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church and he was buried in Osceola cemetery.

Mrs A Woberg dies. large Nebraska family survives

Kathrine Matilda Bergquist born July 1 1866 in Almer Sweden came to America in 1882 married Anton Woberg in 1885 at Stillwater Minnesota later settled in Osceola Nebraska. They had nine children four survive eight grandchildren fourteen great grandchildren Rev G A Randall led burial services in Osceola last Tuesday.
