Eighth grade promotion ceremonies will be at the Methodist Church Osceola on Saturday May 18 at 2 00 p m. The program includes processional presentation of colors flag salute songs and instrumental pieces by local students and a diploma presentation by Supt Olive M McBeth followed by a benediction and recessional.

Silver Star Posthumously Awarded to L. C. Nicolas
The Silver Star for gallantry in Luzon was awarded posthumously to Sgt. Louis C. Nicolas of the U S Army. His father received the medal at a home ceremony conducted by Lt. John E. Mikkelsen. Nicolas helped shoot down enemy planes during raids on Nichols Field, while his truck gun remained in action despite damage.

David W. Riblett born July 15 1915 died May 6 1946 at age 30 9 9. He served thirty six months as a military policeman in U S forces including North Africa New Guinea and the Philippines receiving an honorable discharge January 6 1946. He leaves his father John mother Nina sisters Tessa Ruth Blanche DeTurk and brothers Olin D John T and many relatives. Funeral services were held at Rising City Methodist Church with burial in Rising City cemetery.

Anna Bowman 1869 1946 Obituary from Nebraska
Anna Bowman daughter of Ewing and Eliza Bowman was born near Vermont Illinois in July 1869 and died May 8 1946 at St Francis Hospital Osceola Nebraska at age 76. She married Lincoln L Lott in 1887 and after his death remarried Oscar Corbitt in 1915. She left eight grandchildren twelve great grandchildren one brother Enos Bowman and many other relatives. Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church in Shelby and she rests at Circle Mound Cemetery Rising City.
