Runaway Horse Team Injures Farmer Near Osceola
Otto Daum, a resident near Osceola, was injured when a team pulling a hay wagon ran away at Oscar Boden farm. He was dragged between the wagon and the hayrack, suffering two broken ribs and a badly bruised left arm as the load shifted and the wagon tongue dug into the ground before the horses were halted by trees.

Obituary of Henry Wilbur Humiston passes at 80
Henry Wilbur Humiston born December 21 1858 near Lowell Ohio died March 23 1939 at his home in Shelby Nebraska age 80 years 3 months 2 days. He lived in Ohio Illinois and Iowa before settling in Shelby with his wife Emma Miller in 1883 and they had nine children. He became a veterinarian after farming and livestock care, a Kansas City veterinary graduate in 1904 and a 52 year Mason. Funeral at U B Church Shelby with Rev Plymesser and a quartet. interment in Shelby cemetery.

Robert Taddiken, chairman of the county Agricultural Conservation committee, reports that full Polk County participation in the 1938 ACA would have yielded 414 779 dollars, while actual receipts were 82 971. Obituary of John F. Knerr Pioneer of Stromsburg Nebraska
John F. Knerr born December 13, 1855 in Gernanville Iowa died March 20, 1939 on a Stromsburg Nebraska farm at age 83. He emigrated with his family to Polk County Nebraska in 1873 and lived his life on the same farm, married Charloth Van Dorn in 1882, with two daughters Vella Brigham and Nona L. Mudd, four grandchildren Leah Evelyn Brigham and others, and siblings C B Knorr Ella Gierhart Viola Knerr Eli Knerr. He served on the local school board, loved flowers and books, and was a Modern Woodmen of America member. Funeral services were held March 23 at Green's Chapel with Rev. Homer B. Hix. interment at Hoffer cemetery.
