Polk County 4-Hers Judge Hereford and Angus Shows

Eighty Polk County 4-H livestock club members attended Nebraska Hereford and Aberdeen Angus shows in March. At Grand Island 30 members judged six Hereford classes and learned from judge Forbes, while 50 attended Columbus for four Aberdeen Angus classes. Mercer the grand champion steer impressed all, and Polk entrants placed in top depths with Jones sixth at Grand Island and Schott among leaders. Bard and Schott also placed at Columbus. A county judging school is planned for April 15.

New Confirmation Class Planned at St Pauls Lutheran Church

A confirmation class for youths 13 and older is organized at St Pauls Lutheran Church with special Palm Sunday through Easter services. Holy Week includes three services on Tuesday Thursday and Friday with themes on the savior. Harmony Society meets March 23 at 8 pm hosted by Mrs Clarence Johnson.

Mr. and Mrs. Dan Reeder visited Mrs. Addie Farris and family. the Reeders sold their Douglas Wyoming farm and plan to move to Licken Missouri. Mrs. Nathan Cunningham and daughter visited in Shelby then Columbus. Ray McBeth hosted a birthday surprise with about forty friends. Dale Davis purchased Roy Johnson Hatchery in Shelby where he will operate. Kate Blake suffers fractured ribs from a recent fall at Susie Carson’s home.

Hulls Celebrate Golden Wedding in Edgar Nebraska

Rev and Mrs W W Hull of Sutherland marked their 50th anniversary on March 7 in Edgar Nebraska with a noon dinner for 45 relatives at the American Legion hall a church program and a reception. They were wed in New Sharon Iowa and moved to Nebraska in 1902. Hull once pastored the local Methodist church and the couple have four children.

Greens Chapel group notes postponed services and local meetings

The Ladies Aid of Greens Chapel postponed their Thursday meeting to March 30 due to J. F. Knorr’s death and funeral. The Brotherhood will meet Monday March 27 with four members listed as entertaining. Local clubs report officers elected at recent meetings, including the Victor Club and Jolly Workers Club with named officers. Former Polk County Man Dies at Sidney

Kenneth Oades 42, formerly of Polk County and Shelby area, died Tuesday afternoon in Sidney. He married Ethel Rosenberry of Shelby and leaves four children. Funeral details unavailable. Ira Irland of Osceola and John and Ed Rosenberry of Shelby traveled to Sidney.

Clifford Hernbloom had his tonsils removed last Thursday. Mrs. C. E. Sauter and infant Carolyn Lou were released Saturday and returned home. F. W. Burke, after major surgery, is progressing satisfactorily. Richard Cutsor, 3, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Cutsor, is a hospital patient with a broken leg. Mrs. Raymond Fellows of Genoa was admitted Tuesday for medical treatment.

Father Runs Over Son In Garage Accident

Leo Cutsor backed his car from the garage and ran over his 3 year old son Richard. An X ray showed a broken left leg near the hip. Richard received emergency care and is recovering at Osceola hospital.

Obituary: George J. Graff Dies After Illness at 50

George John Graff born October 17 1888 at Utica Nebraska died March 14 1939 at home south of Shelby after a short illness. He married Charlotte Richter July 30 1908 at Osceola and lived in the area all his life. He leaves wife nine children eight living two sisters three grandchildren and many relatives. Funeral services were held at Wayland church and he was buried in Blue Ridge cemetery.
