Cub Scouts to Deliver Books Bags and Collect Bags

Osceola Cub Scouts plan a Saturday March 27 delivery of new phone books and Goodwill donation bags to homes across 16 counties joining 4 500 other scouts. The following Saturday April 3 Boy Scouts will pick up filled bags for Lincoln Goodwill Industries. Kindergarten registration for 1971 72 term via phone number 747 3121 and mothers and pupils visit Friday April 2 from 8 45 to 9 45.

Osceola star Bob Gissler earned All Conference first team honors and World Herald All-State honorable mention. Teammates Lynn Boden and Dick Wyman joined him on the second team, with Fred Carnahan Doug Schultz Steve Flaherty and Bob Parminter listed on the first team from nearby schools. Other second team picks included Bill Berlin Larry Valasek and Bruce Ortegren.

Athletic Banquet Tickets On Sale By Reservation Only

Last day to buy tickets is March 29 for the April 1 banquet. No tickets at the door. Pep Club members will contact attendees or call the school for tickets. Boden and Dick Wyman of Osceola joined Coach Larry Johnsons Bulldogs who posted 16 wins, 46.1 rebounds per game, and 36.2 percent field goals. Individual records will be published next week.

Sally Mills Named 1971 OHS Delegate to Cornhusker Girls State

Sally Mills daughter of Mr and Mrs Bob Mills was chosen as the 1971 OHS delegate to Cornhusker Girls State by the local American Legion Auxiliary. Mary Kresha was designated alternate. The program in Lincoln lasts one week in June and focuses on government civics and citizenship with a mock election as the highlight.

Schmoker Places Second in Junior Hog Judging Test

Murray Schmoker of Osceola finished as the second high individual at the Junior Hog Judging Contest during the Midwest Market Hog Show in Fremont on Saturday March 13. He belongs to the Valley View Farmers 4-H Club. Polk County 4-H youths judging Fremont included David Herrmann David Watts Mark Schott Monty Grossnicklaus Bruce Treffer and Murray Schmoker. Also judging were Tim Gulbrandson Lynn Oberg Loren Beckstrom Randy Hullinger and Tony Hullinger of Stromsburg. Louis Monson and Lynn Jones accompanied the 4-H group to Fremont.

Booster Club Meeting Relocated to Lutheran Church Youth Room

The Osceola Booster Club now meets in the Youth Room of the Lutheran Church instead of City Hall. The March 25 gathering starts at p.m. with district basketball game films and future plans on the agenda.

Firemen fight blaze at Foldenauer home in storm

Osceola Volunteer Firemen responded to a fire call at the Richard Foldenauer residence during a Thursday storm. Mrs. Foldenauer reported little damage despite extreme cold.

OHS Carnival brings European flair to two nights

A large audience attended the OHS production Carnival directed by Rex Cadwallader and Paul Schreiter. The auditorium transformed into a grand European midway with live performers, puppets, a new sound system, and roaming souvenir vendors enhancing the carnival atmosphere.

Funeral Notices and Obituaries in Stromsburg Area

Archie Hughes died unexpectedly Tuesday at his home southwest of Stromsburg. Funeral arrangements are pending at Kepner-Roberts Mortuary. Louise Wills, 83, died Monday at Annie Jeffrey Memorial Hospital. Formerly of Shelby, she lived at the Good Samaritan Home. Services were Wednesday at Wesley United Methodist Church in Shelby. Mrs. Delmar McFadden accompanied Floyd West to the hospital Sunday to visit Mrs. West.

Town Team to Meet Big Red in Osceola Auditorium

Tree Planter Available to Polk County Farmers

The Polk County SWCD offers a tree planting machine as the district's sole co operator equipment. It can plant three to four hundred trees per hour and costs 2 cents per tree. Farmers must pick up from the previous user and contact the District Clerk at the Soil Conservation Service office in Osceola.

Osceola hit by two storm waves and 4 inch snow

High winds up to 100 mph snarled Osceola with outages from before noon into the evening. NPPD crews from York assisted as downtown Westside outages cleared in 20 minutes but East Osceola stayed dark. Damages included sign loss at Harold's Market and a torn rim at First National Bank. Snow totaled about 7 inches with lingering flurries into spring.
