Frederick Abbet 22 and Robert Long 22, both of Corning Iowa, were found in a cabin where a gas stove had been turned on with doors and windows shut, causing oxygen depletion. Abbet died. Long was badly gasping and taken to Lincoln hospital in satisfactory condition. The North Loup near Scotia narrowed to about 30 to 35 feet last week and ran very shallow with water two to four feet below the ice. Ice lingered on sandy bars, no upstream ice gorge reported, and experts suspect heavy snow soaked up much of the water before the flow returned to normal.

Wall Collapse at Church Ruins Hurts Two Workers
Two workers were nearly killed when a standing wall section toppled onto them at the burned Methodist church ruins. Two Men Held In Osceola Jail Face Forgery Charges
Howard Lewis, 23, of York magazine crew, jailed in Polk County, charged with forgery. He admits writing a 25.50 check to himself and signing Alfred Grossnicklaus’s name. Two Silver Creek checks also cited. Clinton Murray, held in Osceola, pleaded guilty to several no fund checks. Judge Landis will review both cases Friday March 24 in District Court.

Laura E. Wilcox born January 26 1887 in Polk County Nebraska died March 13 1950 in Olympia Washington. She was the daughter of Samuel H and Emma Taylor Wisely one of twelve children. She married William E Wilcox February 1 1911 in Columbus Nebraska and had five children. She belonged to Fair view Church and later moved from the community to Osceola in 1944 where she resided until her death.
