Delwyn Nagengast of Howells won the 7th district American Legion Oratorical contest in Osceola with The Constitution Freedom vs Tyranny. Doris Kennedy qualified Osceola for the district, winning local honors and a $25 bond as Nagengast earned a $25 prize and moves to the Omaha state contest on March 19.

Stromsburg Youth Fatally Burned
Funeral services were held in Stromsburg for three year old Richard Sloan son of Mr and Mrs Clarence Sloan who live two miles northeast of Stromsburg. He died Monday from burns after tossing tractor fuel in the store while his parents were outside. He crawled under the bed as his clothes burned and died before help arrived. The mattress burned but the home was undamaged. Two other Sloan children were in the house and uninjured. Burial was in Stromsburg Cemetery with pallbearers named Richard Anderson Arrol Burgeson and Denny Anderson.

Local churches announce special Easter programs and a county tournament at the auditorium next Monday and Wednesday. Monday games feature Osceola vs Stromsburg B teams at 7 and 8 with Osceola facing Shelby. Wednesday finals follow with winners and losers from Monday at 7 and 8. Admission is 25 cents for Wednesday.
