Students from Osceola Genoa Stromsburg Shelby and Polk competed in a festival at the Osceola auditorium to sharpen technique for the district declamatory contest held Wednesday March 10. Entrants included Jeanice Hehott Mary Ann Berck and others in humorous original oratory interpretive and dramatic readings with one act play entries. Final ratings to be reported next week.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Osceola Methodist Church for H. R. White 72 who died at his daughter’s home in Denver. White was a retired Burlington shops employee in Lincoln and is survived by sisters Mrs. Fred Green and Mrs. Minnie White, a brother Orion White, daughter Mrs. Christenson of Denver, son Merle White of Lincoln, and five grandchildren.

Mrs Jacob Micek Jr died Sunday at age 80 years five months six days. She had lived in St Marys parish on the valley for many years. Her husband preceded her in death in November 1946. Funeral services were Wednesday morning at St Marys Catholic church with interment in the church cemetery.

The day opened with a Past Matron luncheon at noon at Mrs. P B Campbell's home, followed by a School of Instruction in the afternoon. R A Olson warned against low concentration fertilizers. legumes and green manures noted as safe soil improvements. A 4-H Leaders luncheon and awards are planned. Spring activities include septic tank interest and rental farm reservations. Seed sample inquiries rise and Velton 11 seed variety noted. bulletins distributed and slides shown to local groups. Funeral services were held for Orvil Miller 76 of Corona California who died Thursday night March 4 at his home after a lengthy illness. He was a Corona resident for 20 years born January 17 1872 in Bolckow Missouri. He was a member of Rising Star Lodge 75 IOOF Osceola. Survivors include his widow Hannah Miller two brothers John Miller Osceola Ralph Miller Hollywood and sister Maude Shank Pasadena.

Carl Theodore Frahm born October 6 1891 in Millard Nebraska died February 28 1948 in West Point Nebraska at age 56 four months and 22 days He married Alvena Runge in Gretna in 1914 and they had two daughters Ruth and Jane He worked in meat markets in Osceola and West Point was a Grace Lutheran Church member Eastern Star and Masonic Order He served six years on the West Point School Board Survivors include his widow two daughters and two brothers Arnold Seattle and Hugo Omaha Interment in Gretna Nebraska.

A special warning bulletin from the American Foundation for Animal Stealth lists seven poisoning risks for livestock during seeding and pasture season.
