Car Plunges Through Platte River Bridge After Crash
John Homolka, 49, Polk County farmer, escaped serious harm when his Buick tourer went through the north railing of the Platte River bridge south of Columbus around 4 pm. The car rolled into three feet deep water, settled upright, and Homolka, aided by Henry Topil and Herman Pederit, reached the bank. He suffered a fractured collarbone and minor forehead cuts, with the crash blamed on excessive speed entering the sharp turn onto the bridge.
