Crash Victim Is Son of Former Osceola Resident
Captain Samuel Edward Stoner, pilot of the American Airlines plane that crashed in the Southern California mountains on Sunday March 3, is the son of S C Stoner a Los Angeles attorney born in Osceola Nebraska. He attended Los Angeles High School and USC after moving from Seward. A veteran with 8000 flying hours, he served seven years with American Airlines and flew in World War II with the ATC across the North and South Atlantic and in European and CBI theaters.

York Youth Hurt in Scooter Accident
A York youth was injured when a motor scooter driven by Herbert Heiden collided with Everett Anderson’s car at Nebraska Avenue and 12th Street. The rider Richard Witte escaped injury, the youth’s bruises were not dangerous, and he was hospitalized. Police worry over rising scooter use and driver compliance.

William T. Best 45 died in Excelsior Springs Missouri on Tuesday March 5. He served 15 months in France during World War I and belonged to the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He married Helen Swanson February 14 1941 and they lived in Kansas City where he ran an auto repair shop. Survived by wife mother Flora Best Kansas City a brother Carol Denver and sister Sadie Mirth Colorado Springs.
