Farm Ownership Loan Applications Open in Osceola

County Farm Security office in Osceola accepts Farm Ownership loans under the Bankhead Jones Act though the Nebraska 1945 46 allocation of 532972 funds covers about 94 loans this year. Since 1940 eight year program has aided 529 Nebraska farm families, with veterans earmarked funds included. Applications are considered in order received and funds may fall short of all qualified. eligibility and farm fit must be verified by the county FSA Committee.

A A Young Dies One Month After Wife

Osceola mourns the death of A A Young aged 74 who died February 26 in Orange California at his son Johns home, a month after the passing of his wife. Born in 1870 in Salem New York, he once ran a Osceola meat market before moving to California about twenty years ago.

New St Francis Hospital Plan Seeks 100000 In Polk County

St Francis Hospital Board and Bernardine Sisters plan a new 20 bed, light brick facility west of the current site on land donated by Mr and Mrs August Senn. The project includes X ray unit lab operating room maternity ward and more. County Fair Plans and 4-H Launch Amid War Memorial Theme

County Fair officials in the Extension office outline a plan to make the 1946 Victory Fair a top community event with four days of programs two afternoons and three nights plus a full midway. Open class livestock and 4-H exhibits are planned along with a premium list, while a county wide Weed District may form and DDT meetings are announced. International Harvester Day draws large crowd at Muse Theatre

Last Wednesday afternoon a free public movie at the Muse Theatre showcased International Harvester machinery in operation with Larry Lamb as host. E. F. Winters of Omaha, District Soil Conservation Supervisor, spoke on soil conservation. Afterward attendees went to the Polk County Implement Store for coffee doughnuts and prizes.

Silver Star Awarded Son of Former Osceola Teacher

Lt. Comdr. Roger Smith of the U S Navy Submarine Service receives the Silver Star for gallantry aboard the S S Saury in the East China Sea from May 7 to June 7, 1943. He is the son of Chauncey and Emma Smith of Lincoln. Emma, a former Osceola High School language teacher, taught around 1912 to 1915 and is remembered by former pupils in Osceola.
