Catholic Parish Planned for Osceola by Lincoln Diocese

The Lincoln Diocese confirms a Catholic parish will be organized in Osceola with Rev Fr Kean supervising. About thirty Catholic families in Osceola and nearby areas will form the nucleus, under a committee appointed by Father Kean.

Extension Meeting and 4 H Fun Fest Held in Osceola

Eighty adults and 4 H members attended the Osceola Legion Hall event. Directors elected for three year terms were Mrs. Lloyd Hahn Mrs. Marie Mueller and Ansel Fredrickson. Awards included Aksar Ben Medal for Robert Peterson and silver clovers for Mrs. Rex Brigham and Mrs. John Staroscik.

Mr and Mrs Frank Zelasney of near Monroe were guests in the Leo Lassek home on Monday. Mr and Mrs Charles Coffin who had a farm sale on Monday will move soon to Columbus. Their son Roy and family will occupy their farm. Mr and Mrs Carl Benda and family of Columbus and Mrs Jos Benda and Albert were guests in the John Micek home Wednesday. Stanley Lassek visited friends at Columbus on Sunday. Mrs John Gonka and her son of near Duncan were guests last Thursday in the home of Mrs Jim Gonka.

Fire damages Shelby Feed Mill in Tuesday blaze

A fire of unknown origin caused considerable damage to the Shelby Feed Mill Tuesday morning. Firemen saved the main building and an adjoining feed shed after the alarm at about six o'clock, with the blaze starting in the upper part of the building. the extent of damage remains undetermined.

Louisa Jane Biggs 95 of Bee Nebraska died March 13 1946 in Bee Nebraska after a long life on a Polk County homestead begun 73 years earlier. Born July 26 1850 in Jacksonville Illinois she married Johnathan P Biggs January 2 1873 and left five children three surviving Lillie B Johnson Maud G Query and Charles Biggs. A lifelong Methodist she read the Bible 338 times and faced death without fear. Services were at Victor Anderson chapel with Rev. A C Rice using John 14:3.

Newsmen Stranded in Manchuria Amid War Guarding

Chicago Daily News reporter Bill MecGaffin and eight colleagues were stranded for days in Changchun under Russian control. They were interned at a hotel guarded by a Russian soldier with a Tommy gun and later dismissed at General Karlov headquarters, forced to walk in sub zero weather two miles to safety. The Headlight notes MecGaffin reported from Manchuria and that March 8 he had reached China by plane, again safe.
