The Osceola Record recalls Albert Ryan starting as a barber in Osceola March 11 73 years ago after moving in on March 10. He bought Clyde Ward’s half of the shop and partnered with Grant Stuart, the business then housed in the Osceola Bank back room. The piece notes local business anniversaries and community history.

Monson Named President Of Central Nebraska Pork Producers

L. Monson elected president at the Directors meeting in York on March 2. Projector Fund Nears Needed Total At Center

The Good Samaritan Center Projector Fund has raised donations to reach about 300 dollars. Contributions totaling 225 dollars came from Allegra Johnson Stromsburg Mrs. George Cady Rising City Mr and Mrs Oscar Imm Silver Creek Mrs Raymond Lindblade Mrs Paul Graff Willis Wills Martin Jones and Circle 1 of the First United Methodist Church Osceola. Donations for the projector and screen support resident entertainment and staff in service training and should be sent to Jim Wunderlich center manager.

Osceola's Junior High basketball team, the Bullpups, lost 34 to 32 to Stromsburg in opening round play at the Goldenrod Conference Tournament in Clarks Monday evening March 8. Stromsburg surged late to clinch the win. a fuller Coach Charles Hays report will run next week.

Osceola News reports Mr and Mrs Marvin Ler of Omaha spent the weekend with the Ben Schmokers. They attended the Golden Wedding open house honoring Mr and Mrs John Muller at Surprise Sunday afternoon and visited Mrs Wauneta Minick and Mrs Grace Duren in Rising City.

Osceola Lions Club Grants Support To Community Projects

The Osceola Lions Club approved donations totaling funds for a projector and screen at the Good Samaritan Center and improvements at the baseball diamond. They reported the March of Dimes drive matched last year, noted REAP Handbooks go to printer, and were thanked by Osceola Girl Scouts with birthday cakes for sponsoring them. Delegates from Mid-America Dairymen Inc gathered in Kansas City with Henry Buresh among 1500 attendees. Nebraska delegates flew in by chartered plane to Grand Island Norfolk and Lincoln. Clifford Hardin and Oklahoma’s governor spoke.

Career Night at Osceola High School March 18

Osceola High School hosts a career night for freshmen and sophomores with parents on Thursday March 18 1971 from 7 30 to 9 30 p m inviting Polk County students and those from Gresham and Silver Creek. About 40 professionals will answer questions and Platte College will provide its occupational counseling van starting at 6 30 p m.

Boa Barney to headline Carnival at Osceola High School

Boa Barney headlining the Osceola High School musical Carnival will perform March 20 with a large student ensemble and additional acts. An audience of 8 adults saw a preview at Rex Cadwallader’s home as the show builds toward opening night at the OHS auditorium with tickets available from students and at the door.

Pioneer Farm Award sought by Polk County Fair Board

Henry Galus and Ray A. Conrad seek local pioneer farm families for the Nebraska Pioneer Farm Award to be given at the 1971 County Fair. The sixteenth year award honors landowners who have held the same farm for 100 years or more. Nomination deadline is June 1, 1971.
