Polk County's Annual Farm and Home Day is set for March 9 in Osceola with events at 9:30 a.m. in the Osceola High School Auditorium. Glenn Kreuscher, director of Nebraska State Department of Agriculture, will headline the afternoon address. Morning activities for women include a style show and tax and records program.
Osceola High School drama participants Becky McDonald Debbie Carlson Larry Neujahr Andy Kresha Bill Norton will compete in Oral Interpretation Drama Prose Literature Interpretive Public Address and other events at the District Speech Contest March 16 in the United Methodist Church basement. Farm and Home Day is open to the public with a free lunch provided by the Osceola Chamber of Commerce.
The Women's Safety Organization offers a free Medical Self-Help course for women. Meetings begin Tuesdays starting March 9 with five or six sessions. Contact town chairmen by March 5 for enrollment.
The Polk County Chapter of the National Foundation contributed 450 to the March of Dimes Defects Center at the Children’s Memorial Hospital in Omaha. This follows previous commitments from Polk County to support the center.
The Osceola Bulldogs defeated Central City Christian 66-33 in a Class C district opener led by Bob Gissler with 19 points and Cal Coffin 10. The team built a 17-7 first-quarter lead and extended the margin after halftime before Cedar Rapids edged Osceola 56-55 in the district playoff game, with Dick Wyman scoring 17 and Bob Gissler 12. Two other briefs note attendance at the Nebraska Drillers Convention in Lincoln and Patricia Dahmke completing nursing coursework in Hastings before returning to Omaha.
Fair officials Henry Galus and Ray A Conrad seek local pioneer farm families for the Nebraska Pioneer Farm Award to be presented at the 1971 County Fair. The sixteenth year program honors landowners with 100 or more years of ownership. Nominations due June 1 1971.

Charles Roberts elected president of Osceola's Community Club at the February meeting. Officers include Robert Carey as vice president and Ron Christensen as treasurer. The group's first major project is a pork feed March 6 at City Hall to fund Old Times Day and support local initiatives.
