Final Polk County March of Dimes Campaign Report
The final 1950 Polk County March of Dimes drive reports total contributions of 3080.81 with 3009.54 net after expenses. Half stays in the local treasury to aid polio victims, the other half goes to National Headquarters for research and care. 1949 totals were 3207.13.

Rosilyn Kennedy reports on district tournament programs and the consolation trophy courtesy of the Osceola Chamber of Commerce. FHA and FFA events spanned three nights with lunches by student clubs, a March 6 dramatic contest, and a March 16 Fun Feed inviting Miss Schmidt. The FHA mothers tea February 28 featured a recipe exchange and candle lighting for eight purposes. An FFA class was organized March 8 under the Veteran's Farm Training Program with state officials aiding initiation.

Destructive High Wind and Snow Strike Osceola Area
A fierce storm pummeled Osceola and surrounding towns with 60 to 80 mph winds and 2 to 4 inches of snow. Ice coated roads, communications damaged, and several buildings suffered major damage while no serious injuries were reported. The storm extended into Shelby, Polk, Stromsburg, and York County before finally subsiding Tuesday night.

Dwight Assumption dominated the District Class C tournament in Osceola last week. They defeated Osceola 57 22 in the opening game, Polk 46 31, and Genoa 41 27 to claim the title. Genoa beat Stromsburg 50 36 and Polk beat Shelby 48 28 earlier, with Clarks drawing a bye. Thursday Genoa beat Clarks 54 33 and Dwight Assumption beat Polk 44 43 in a consolation night.
