After the St Andrews Catholic Church was destroyed by fire, the Osceola site was tendered for a new church. The offer was made to Rt Rev Bishop Kucera of the Lincoln Diocese, who thanked the sender and favored the Osceola location. Parish members will decide.
About 78 members and guests attended a Legion Hall banquet hosted by the Osceola Chamber of Commerce. Harold B. Johnson of Universal Film Co. gave an entertaining talk on the film industry, while J. T. Stanton explained the GI Bill and S. Crowse outlined county fair plans. The event included a community sing and Legion Quartet music with W. W. Norton as toastmaster. Guests hailed from Shelby Polk and Stromsburg. The Nebraska League of Municipalities will meet in Osceola in June.
District No. 18 reports visitors from Columbus including Mr. and Mrs. Carl Benda and family. The Hasselbalchs hosted Ralph Hasselbalch and others at their home. Extended visits also came from Sidney and Duncan areas. Stanley Lassek escaped injury when a hayrack fire caused a spill but he saved the tractor and gears.

Albert P. Nelson born September 20 1872 in Kirkwood Illinois died February 21 1946 at Immanuel Hospital Omaha age 73 years 5 months 1 day. He moved to Folk County Nebraska in 1882 with his parents farmed near Osceola and was a St Paul Lutheran Church charter member. He married Marie Pierson March 6 1901 had one daughter who died in infancy and leaves wife three brothers Ellen Tillberg Emma Johnson Anna Nelson Hilma Pierson Esther Boden Myrtle Scuff and many nieces nephews. Funeral at St Paul Lutheran Church Osceola and burial in Osceola cemetery.
Mr and Mrs Leo Richter with several relatives spent Saturday in Lincoln. Leonard Hiemer and family visited John Gabriel's home on the valley Sunday. Lt Nadine Lux returned to her parents after Pacific service. Euse and Hiemer families hosted a Thursday party at Hershal Reisdorf home. Extension Club met at Mrs Clarence Richter s Tuesday evening. The Hiemers and Krumbachs visited Victor Krumbach Sunday night.
Sunday gatherings saw the Merrick and related families hosting and visiting across Wesley Chapel with extended kin from Fairbury Clay Center Columbus and Kearney. Adolph Kuehnal marked his 80th birthday with relatives from Shelby Emory Alfred Robert Kuehnal Lester Hasselbalch Pat Kuehnal and Richard Thelen. Tom Cockson hosted a Cockson family reunion near Columbus marking a 70th birthday anniversary.
Lt and Mrs L R Price return home from Chicago where he was discharged after 20 months service including 13 months overseas in the Pacific. Their daughters Nancy and Bonnie stayed with Price parents in Thayer. Nearby visits include Mr and Mrs Robert Spargo and Mrs Robert Wiley of Arnold Nebraska and Ora Huff of Goodland Kansas who traveled with his daughter.
Osceola Bulldogs dropped both games to Polk last Friday night. The second team lost 23 17 while the first team were beaten 39 27. Lind led Polk with 24 points as Osceola tried to surge late in the third and fourth quarters.
Oswald Lux filed Monday on the Republican ticket for County Commissioner in the First District. He seeks the seat amid a field of local party contenders.

Raymond Burke attended a Bea trice wedding and army friend’s ceremony. Numerous locals visited Omaha Lincoln Benedict and Stromsburg areas over the weekend. A farewell party for Leslie Carlson’s Denver departure capped the Stromsburg social calendar.

Minnie Constantia Hult Swanson died at St. Francis Hospital Osceola on February 17 1946 age 76. She married August R Swanson in 1888 and had eight children with survivors including two daughters and four sons. Burial followed at Swede Home cemetery with services by Rev Franzen.
Gene Wilcox daughter of Mr and Mrs W E Wilcox married Raymond Joy son of Mrs Emma Joy of York in a February 21 ceremony at the Wilcox home. Rev G A Randall officiated with immediate family present. Both graduates of Osceola High School they worked at the Osceola Food Center and plan to live in Columbus as Joy works for Jesse's Bakery distributor route.

Mrs. Jay Hastings, 78, died Sunday afternoon at her Gospel Ridge home after a heart attack. She had visited neighbors earlier and passed away minutes later. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon with burial in Osceola Cemetery. obituary to follow next week.
A D Barnes 57 former Osceola Schools music instructor died Sunday at a Columbus hospital after two years illness. Born July 4 1888 in Indianapolis Indiana he moved to Columbus in 1930 with his wife. He resigned last November after two years teaching in Osceola and served in the Fourth Cavalry in the Philippines after the Spanish American War. He is survived by his wife and one son with burial in a Columbus cemetery Wednesday.
Three Polk County residents earned Silver Medals for work on the county eight bond drives. Awardees were Robert Taddiken of Shelby, Mrs. Lioyd Hahn of Polk, and B. C. Nordlund of Stromsburg. Nordlund and Taddiken led the War Finance Committee. Hahn led the women’s division and publicity. The medals, issued by the U S Treasury, feature the minute man and Treasury Seal on one side and the Iwo Jima flag raising scene with the inscription For Patriotic Service 1941 1945 on the other.
Bretilah Cemetery Society will meet March 8 with Mrs. Mary Miller at her Silver Creek home, with Mrs. Miora Miller assisting. Several local residents were noted visiting or staying with families in Stromsburg Osceola and Stromborg districts over the weekend.
Miss Mari Belle Lyle eleven, daughter of Mr and Mrs Floyd Lyle, was hurt Monday at the high school when a heavy upright piano toppled during a move. She was taken to Dr. Anderson in Stromseburg. no bones were broken, only minor cuts and bruises reported.
Mr and Mrs Henry Mundt and Dorothy visited the Herbert Mundt home in Hampton. The Polk Ministerial Association met at Rev Iv Pearson's home with tentative Holy Week service plans. Attendance includes Carl Mundt and daughter of Hampton and Gordon Smith and family of Rising City plus Mrs W H Seward of Topeka and Woodrow Wilson and Ralph Wright at Milton Anderson home. Joyce and Beverly Jones hosted Baptist Youth Fellowship with games and refreshments. Six week tests were given in Polk schools and report cards will be issued this week. Spring approaches and school year end nears. Eric Larson of Central City and Charles Carlson hosted dinner guests Saturday.
Mr and Mrs Jacob Micek sr of St Marys parish observe a sixtieth wedding anniversary on February 22 in Walt County. He is 92, she 78, making them the oldest and longest married couple in the area. They were married February 22 1886 at St Stanislaus in Duncan and still reside on their family farm with descendants including 14 children, 44 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
The hospital lists one week of admissions in medical and surgical services. Names include Vernelle Carlson and Gladys Carlson from Osceola, Alden Lee Grosch of Silver Creek, and Rev. Michael Szczesny of Sargent, among others. Several patients—Carl Carlson and Caroline Johnson—were discharged during the period.
Community members visit relatives across Hastings including Stanley Lockard recent Navy discharge. Albert Gabriel and family stop by John Tomisovich home in Shelby. Louis Shemek hosts a gathering for Pvt Albert Shemek headed to Ft Ord with Leona Shemek and Alois Shemek among attendees. Genevieve Schott visits Lincoln parsits Joe and Genevieve Schott.
The ceremony united Vivian Cora Jarmin of Edson Kansas and Geo Herbert Stansbury III of Buickhet Kentucky at the Episcopal Church in Goodland Kansas on February 16. Corrine Jarmin served as maid of honor and Harold Jarmin was best man. The couple plans a Colorado Springs wedding trip and will reside at Meddis Lane Beachel Kentucky.
