The City Council adopted a water rate ordinance raising the minimum quarterly charge to 2.50 and outlining new schedules. For the first 5 000 gallons per quarter the charge is 2.50, then 40c per 1 000 gallons up to 15 000, 30c per 1 000 up to 45 000, and 20c per 1 000 beyond 45 000 per quarter.

The Gas Company will allocate new heat installations from applicants by a random draw of numbers last Thursday. The first eight numbers drawn will receive installations immediately. others will be served in order. Applicants must act within thirty days or their numbers will be dropped.
Rita Bernt, 23, Osceola native now in Columbus, is a registered nurse hospitalized at St. Joseph's in Omaha with subacute bacterial endocarditis. Doctors cite improved survival, penicillin therapy at 10 million units daily, and looming hospital bills as she remains on a bed with a needle in her arm for several weeks. The Lincoln bishop sent $100 recognition of her pluck.
All Osceola baseball games were not played last Sunday due to rain. The Cornhusker game at Seward was postponed because the fields were wet. The Legion team game on the Osceola diamond was canceled after a half inch of moisture Sunday morning.

York blanked Osceola 10-0 on Wednesday at Osceola diamond as five Osceola errors in the third inning sparked a decisive York rally. York leads Cornhusker league with strong hitting. Central City visited Osceola for a league game after press time. Osceola travels to Aurora Sunday for another league contest.

The Legion Auxiliary elected officers for the coming year at its regular meeting last Friday. New president is Mrs. W. F. Monson, with vice president Mrs. M. R. Anderson, secretary Mrs. Dewey Sigler, treasurer Mrs. John A. Craven, sergeant at arms Mrs. Sheldon Bond, chaplain Mrs. D. R. Byers, historian Mrs. Delmar McFadden, and Poppy Chairman Mrs. Carl Johnson.
Two Osceola girls studying at state university earned scholarships. Janet Kepner won a Regent's Scholarship for scholastic standing after special exams. Mary Gaile Sigler won one of two Miller and Paine scholarships for extracurriculars scholastic ability and strong recommendations.
Burial services were held for Pfc Louis J. Starostka who died in France on September 1, 1944 and was interred at Silver Creek. School meeting re elected Frances Miller and Frank Carman. Anderson Mercantile observes its twenty fifth year in Osceola on July 1 after being purchased in 1923 by the present owner. The store, previously run by Arthur N. Johnson, has expanded from meats to a full self service operation with staff including Laurence Shorty Bowe and clerks such as Tillman Joy Gustafson and Anderson. An anniversary sale highlights the celebration as community boosters applaud the business's growth amid past economic challenges.
Red Cross swimming classes open at Osceola Pool from June 28 to July 9 for Osceola and Shelby youths age eight and up. Application blanks available at the pool or Matt’s Market in Shelby June 21–25, due by June 26. Instructor Dorothy Stever returns, praised for prior work.
The romantic comedy Mickey stars Lois Butler in her screen bow as a teen who chases romance with her widowed father’s rivals. World premiere in Moline, Illinois precedes Osceola opening Sunday June 27 for a three day run at Muse Theatre.
Georgia Anna Mytholar daughter of George and Sarah Mytholar was born January 27 1908 near Shelby and died June 13 1948 after injuries from a car wreck. A Shelby High School graduate, York College alumna, and teacher in Butler and Polk Counties she later taught at Shelby grade school. She was active in Castle Memorial Church Rebekah and Royal Neighbor lodges and served as secretary of the Church Administration Council. Services were held at Castle Memorial Church Shelby with Rev. C F Wantz officiating and graveside at Shelby Graceland Cemetery.
The Osceola Chamber of Commerce will hold a meeting Monday night June 28 at 7 00 at the Osceola Hotel. Members and guests are invited to attend this community gathering hosted by the local business group.
Mr and Mrs K L Fellers of Butte Nebraska purchase CharleyOlson property in Osceola and plan to move soon to open a jewelry store after home possession and remodel of the building south of the Gas Company office. The note adds local pride about lawns and a letter from Walt Herbes describing life in California.
