Silver Wedding Anniversary Observed in City Park

Sunday June 19th proved delightful for Mr and Mrs Henry Reed of Polk as relatives and friends gathered at City Park for a noon surprise. A two course dinner followed with a purse of silver presented and photographs taken with numerous attendance including the Reed family and friends from York Hampton and Hampton area.

Swede Plain Church marks fiftieth anniversary

The Swede Plain Church near Polk celebrated its Golden Jubilee on Sunday June 20 with a full day program. Former members and friends joined Rev. Albert Samuelson Rev. Clarence Lind and local church leaders for morning afternoon and evening services. Golden Wedding couples were honored and two meals were served by the Ladies Aid.

Osceola Park Board announces tryouts for high school boys to join the swimming team at the Osceola Pool under Lester Peters on Friday June 25 at 11 00 AM The plan includes a future swimming contest among neighboring pools Those interested should start training Also those wishing to join the Junior and Senior Life Saving Class meet at the pool Tuesday morning June 28 and report to Lester Peters.

Maple Leaf Club Meets At Dora McCormick Home

The Maple Leaf Club held a June 17 meeting at Dora McCormick’s home with good attendance. Helen Wamsley led the program after the business session. Bertha Berck spoke on her trip to the York Reformatory for women. The next meeting is set for July 15 at Mary Miller’s home with Lucy Miller as program leader.

Countywide Canada Thistle Notice Warns Public

Polk County Sheriff Gunnard Peterson warns landowners to cut and mow Canada Thistles on their property or adjacent highways to prevent seeding. State law imposes a fine of 10 to 40 dollars for noncompliance and calls for public cooperation to control the agricultural menace.

Mrs. L H Headstrom and Mrs Jennie Stanton hosted a Bridge luncheon for 24 ladies at the Headstrom home. Roger Anderson fractured his wrist after a fall from a tree. Gavin Muirhead, now a Revenue Collector in New Mexico, visited Stromsburg. Rev and Mrs J L Headbloom traveled to Denver and Brighton Colorado to visit daughters, returning in ten days. A prenuptial shower honored Evelyn Peterson at the Iver Nordburg home. The two day flower show at the First National Bank building drew large crowds and impressive displays by the Garden Club. I E Olson hosted a reception for son Eugene and fiancée Evelynne Peterson. Mrs Axel Anderson and others visited Aurora for a birthday celebration. The J L Olson family held Father's Day reunion with relatives from Omaha and Lincoln. Several local families joined a picnic trip to Camp Strader at Crete to see Stromsburg boys camping.

The wedding of Bethel Hallenneck of Mason City Nebraska and Donald Heinemeyer of Osceola occurred on Tuesday June 15 in Sterling Colorado. They will reside in Greeley Colorado for summer as Heinemeyer attends summer school, then return to Osceola in fall where he teaches commercial at Osceola High School.

Booster Delegation to Visit Osceola for Stromsburg Celebration

A Stromsburg booster group plans a Friday visit to Osceola as part of a fourteen-town tour promoting a July 5 to 7 festival. The program in Stromsburg includes a parade, baseball and sports, free attractions, clown acts, a maple-dance floor, and a ten piece orchestra led by Sternie Sternberg.

Camp Fire Girls Entertain Mothers in Osceola

The Frilescha Camp Fire Girls of Osceola entertained their mothers on Monday evening June 21 at guardian Mrs. Monkman home. The event featured a Council Fire Ceremony where girls earned honor beads and rank advancements. Kathryn Huston became a Woodsgatherer and Margaret Kelly a Trail Seeker amid a candle service and refreshments.

A purebred pig club named Stull Corner Club was organized with eight members present on Tuesday night, June 15, at Arthur Deeter's home with F B Kelly assisting. Officers include Pres.
