Seven-digit dialing coming to Stromsburg Osceola and Polk
York will switch to dial operation next spring and all numbers in Stromsburg Osceola and Polk will change to seven numerals. Ralph Wait of Lincoln Telephone says All Number Calling will enable direct dialing to about 50 million telephones in 39 states and Canada. Testing of York dial equipment begins this fall with individual line tests before the cutover. The York business office moves to the new building in six weeks while the switchboard and service department stay in the old building.
