Polk County reports a 19 percent decline in total property assessments after reductions of 7 percent in personal property, 20 percent on lands, and 21 percent on lots. Intangibles drop 27 percent, with money down 30 percent and securities down 24 percent.
The Ladies Aid met at the hall for a Thursday afternoon meeting with a covered dish lunch. An ice cream social is planned for Friday evening at the community hall on June 30. Several residents and visitors are mentioned including Dorothy Ann Deeter, Mrs. Hilbert Buchta, the McCormicks, Eleazer McCormick, Frank Joy, Miss Lillie Carlson, Mrs. Henry Strickland, Verti2 Heitzman, Ann Hannipel, Ionae Anderson, Lester Anderson, Gus Lieber, Hugo DeBere, John Conkling and family, and Harry Wisely. The Platte River is low with many taking to spearing fish.
Mrs Otto Horsard infant Michelle Ann left Osceola Hospital Monday June Hartson had tonsils removed by Dr R L Schroeder at Osceola Hospital yesterday morning A baby girl was born last Friday to Mr and Mrs Arthur Deeter at Osceola Hospital Louis Willitts underwent appendicitis surgery at Osceola Hospital Saturday Dr Harley Ecklund assisted by Dr Brikhart of Shelby The condition of the patient is satisfactory Harold Longs was treated for ruptured appendix at Osceola Hospital with emergency operation by Dr Bell of York. He remains in serious condition.
Summary of county baseball games played Sunday. Silver Creek defeated Valley 9 to 2 with a late surge. F. A Barbers edged Stromsburg 4 to 2 in a tight contest. Osceola beat Shelby 7 to 4 as Swede Home completed a 4 to 2 victory.
Ye Shelby Ye Shelby we re Rev. and Mrs FP W McMeekin and two daughters visited Rev. McMeekin's sister in Shelby. Miss Beight then visited relatives in Concordia Kansas while Rev. and Mrs. McMeekin plan trips to Iowa Pittsburg Penn New York City. A birthday party for Mrs Mytholar drew about forty guests.
A new Busy Bees 4-H Sewing Club is organized with Miss Vida Beckmeyer leader. It meets every two weeks on Thursday at 9 in the city park. Officers elected include President Kathryn Huston Vice President Mary Mae Timm Secretary Betty Jo Carson Recreation Chairman Ruth Nelson News Reporter Marjorie Price.
Applications for free high school tuition for the 1933-34 year must be filed with the County Superintendent by July 1, 1932. The requirement applies to residents in districts without maintained high school grades.
Mark Hanna Gubser 30 of Osceola Nebraska died Friday in Cozad Nebraska from a heat related heart attack while bathing in a shallow pool on a farm. He was born September 25 1903 in Shelby Nebraska and served in the U S Army. He is survived by sister Hazel Gilliland of Omaha and brother Frank Gubser of Superior. Funeral services were held at the Osceola Methodist Church with burial in Osceola Cemetery.
Mrs. F. E. Klein and Miss Elizabeth Weeden presented piano and dancing pupils in a Rivoli Theatre recital last Thursday night. An unusually large crowd enjoyed the program and praised the performers. Students included Pan LaMunyon Robert Ballenger Caroline Ballenger Bess Ray Glen Hennings Margaret McFadden Riva Jane Kemp Betty Jo Carson Howard McDonald Doris Ann Duncan Dorothy Schlesinger Martha Motormick Ruth Bintz Patty Lu Rogers Paul LaMunyon Ortrude Anderson.
The Epworth League of the First Methodist Church Osceola will present A Night in Jonesport at the church tomorrow night June 23 at 8 oclock. John Howard dramatic artist and singer plays Seth Parker with ten Epworth League members assisting. Admission ten cents. An opportunity to hear radio character in person see old fashioned clothes and hear old songs.
Ray Waller shot himself early Monday at his Swede Home residence and was found in the garage by family members. He had been ill for two weeks, and his illness is seen as a possible cause. He was born March 3, 1891, married Freda Anderson in 1916, and left four children and a widow. He is survived by his father Gust Waller and brothers Conrad Ivan David Ernest Phillip. Funeral services were held June 21 at Swede Home Church with burial in Swede Home Cemetery.
Last Saturday night near the Social Center school a W G Herrmann car carrying Mrs Herrmann and her husband was struck by Emil Hosner’s car returning from Columbus. Mrs Herrmann suffered fractured ribs and facial cuts. Mrs Hosner sustained a broken nose and severe facial injuries, Mr Hosner slight bruising, and the Herrmann four boys were uninjured. The Hosner Chevrolet coupe was wrecked beyond repair. Mrs Herrmann taken to Osceola Hospital for treatment.
Osceola friends of Kitten Ball are invited to meet at the Court House on Monday June 26 at 10 a.m. to organize local teams for summer contests. All ages encouraged to attend and help set up teams and preliminaries. Nearby communities already fielding teams and Osceola may schedule games if desired.
The University of Nebraska will lose two thirds of a million dollars next year. Salaries drop sharply, staff shrinks, and departments reorganize due to reduced legislative funds, federal aid cuts, and lower income from fees. The $666,342.68 increase over the current budget reflects a 22 percent cut on salaries above 1500 and a 10 percent cut with 1000 exempt, plus 25 percent reductions for agricultural substations and Curtis.
The late Mrs. W A Wescoat's property will be sold at auction Saturday afternoon June 24 at the family home in north Osceola. The sale includes all household goods of the owner.
Stromsburg residents attended a baseball game at Buckley Park where the E. and A. Barbers faced the Stoner Club and Stoner secured a decisive win. Visitors from Des Moines joined local families for ten days of visiting relatives. Several townsfolk planned trips to Chicago for the World's Fair and extended visits with relatives.

Mrs Harlan Carlson hosts mother visitor. Henry Kindberg returns home from York Lutheran Hospital improved. Mrs E E Gabel to Columbus. Dorothy Augustine stays with Gabels. N S Rolt hosts father Roy Abolt and wife from Kansas. Abolt last visited twenty five years ago. About 150 attend County Farmer's Union meeting at Green's Chapel. Fredrickson absent. C B Knerr leads. Pictures by Kelly and Farmers Union Creamery talk by Hoare draw praise. Victor Club meets Mrs S W Peterson's home with program and lunch.

Mr and Mrs W E Snider arrive back Monday night from a two week trip to Minnesota and Iowa.
Osceola couple Evelyn Brown and Charleas Hastings united in marriage Monday morning June 19 at Wahoo Methodist Church. Rev. Harold M. Bryant officiated. Attendants were Ruth Brown of Denver and Milton Lindquist. The bride wore Eleanor blue silk crepe and lace with a matching hat. She is the daughter of E J and Mrs Brown of Osceola area and a former Nielsen Chevrolet employee. Hastings is son of Mr and Mrs Jay Hastings and a Town Nebraska Light and Power foreman. The couple will honeymoon in Chicago for a week or ten days and then reside in the Fritz Olson house in south Osceola. The Record offers congratulations.
A large crowd gathered at Hubert Jaax's grave Sunday to honor Sisters Anita and Gerard of York who taught children at St. Andrews church. The afternoon included running races games and a ball game followed by ice cream and cake. Sisters returned to York later that day.
A church notice invites attendance for Pioneer's Day observeration next Sunday with praise for the pioneers and a plan for a combined Sunday School and Worship Service in an hour and a half. Interested members are asked to respond.
