Referendum on Havens Bridge Repair Fails in Joint Meeting
Polk and Merrick counties, with State Highway rep, rejected repair of the Platte River bridge south of Havens due to funds limits. K A Cornish and Cc R Stanton led the South Omaha cattle market last Thursday with ten choice Herefords averaging 1041 pounds and selling for 86 75 a cwt. Stanton’s maiden shipment to South Omaha pleased him as he favored the competitive buying system and felt better pricing than local sales. Other top sellers in recent weeks included John Adelson and John Stohl.

Farmers Union picnic and club meeting schedule noted
The Victor Club will meet with Mrs. S W Peterson Tuesday afternoon June 20. The Farmers Union picnic at Green's Chapel Friday night drew a large crowd with ice cream and cake. Virginia Torell played piano and Mr Kelly showed moving pictures. Various local families shared meals and visits as Children’s Day events drew about 130 attendees. Mrs. Hilma August Oberg born November 9 1869 in Sweden died last Wednesday after a serious operation. She came to America in 1910 with John Walfrid Oberg and settled in Osceola joining St. Pauls Lutheran Church. Survived by husband John two sons Ivar and Anna and Olaf? (corrected: Anna, Ivar and John), siblings Claus Axel Carlson and Hannah Erickson in Sweden. Burial Saturday at Lutheran Church in Osceola with interment in Osceola cemetery.

Businessman Falk Drowns In Lake Pibel Tragedy
Frank E. Falk a 47 year old Clarks business leader drowned when his boat capsized at Lake Pibel state park near Spalding during a fishing trip. He was not found for over an hour and died after unsuccessful resuscitation. Survived by wife and three daughters Helen Doris and Dorothy. Funeral held at Methodist Church in Clarks with burial there.

Air Races Set to Thrill Omaha Crowd This Week
Omaha hosts the third annual air races at the municipal airport Friday through Sunday. About 200 planes will compete in speed events and a dramatic two-man two-mile high parachute jump by Clem Sohn and J Wayne Wagner, dropping from 9 000 feet before opening chutes. Miss Mary Nadine Stowe of Lincoln married Ward J. Taylor of Lincoln Sunday morning June 4 at Westminister Presbyterian Church. Dr Paul Johnston officiated in a family ceremony attended by close relatives. The bride wore white silk crepe with orange brown accents and a white turban. Attendant was Miss Phyllis Thompson and best man was George Austin. After a breakfast for ten at Annex Cafe the couple left for Kansas City and will reside in Lincoln. Mrs. Taylor is the daughter of Grace Stowe of Kansas City and Osceola High School alumna. Mr. Taylor is son of Clara J. Taylor, Nebraska graduate and Pi Kappa Alpha member.
