Films Are Feature Of Women's Tea
The Polk County Extension Women's Council held its annual spring tea in the Parish Hall Shelby June 7 with about 160 attendees. Mrs. Gerhard Lux presided in Mrs. Tom Schmoker’s absence. The program included a piano solo by Peggy Brigham, a vocal solo by Joan Vakoc, and a report on Homemaster's Recognition at Omaha. Slide displays of Nebraska scenes by Mr. and Mrs. John Pierce of Holdrege highlighted the event. The Pierces run the Memorial Home in Holdrege and assist with youth camps. Grace Horna of York presented a talk with pictures on her hobby of making Dra Pies. A tea and social hour followed. Clubs participating included Clear Creek, Lone Star, Shelby Project, and North Shelby with the Shelby Training Center coordinating under Mrs. Donald Linton.

Stock Car Races Scheduled On Sunday June 26
After a canceled May event, the Fair Board and drivers reached an agreement over car eligibility and track conditions. Work to widen and smooth the track will begin this weekend with extra soaking before the race. Prices stay the same and an even larger crowd is anticipated. Nebraska Stock Car races will provide sufficient cars of the same rating for a top notch event on the 26th.

District Judging Day for 4-H Participants
A district 4-H judging day was held June 10 at Stromsburg High School with 178 attendees from Merrick York Seward Butler Howard Hamilton and Polk counties. Training covered Clothing Foods Home Living and livestock judging led by Miss Mary Gerlach Kathryn Cooley Magdalen Pfister Dr Paul Geier and C W Nibler with help from College of Agriculture students and 4-H leaders. The Polk County ASC Committee schedules a wheat marketing quota referendum for June 25 with nine polling places from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eligible voters are growers with more than 15 acres, and the result will affect 1956 price support levels between 50 and 90 percent of parity based on the margin of yes votes. Band Opens Season With Concert Saturday Evening
Duane Johnson, Osceola schools music director, to direct city summer band concerts. The first concert is set for Saturday evening June 18 at 8 00. Rehearsals begin Friday evening June 17 at 8 00 in the high school auditorium. Any high school senior band member or community member may join. Hospital Building Will Be Enclosed In About A Week
Construction advances on the Annie Jefffrey Memorial County Hospital at Osceola. Brick walls and sub roof are done the roof will be installed next week with insulation and finish roof. Interior work begins after the roof and the building will be closed to the public until plastering painting and cabinet work are completed. The contractor hopes to complete by October.
