Mr. and Mrs. Merle Runquist welcome a baby boy born June 1 named Merle Duane. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Thelen of Shelby announce a son born Saturday June 4 at Osceola hospital named Billy Jim.
Mr. and Mrs. Oscar E. Johnson marked their 50th anniversary on June 5 1955 at Calvary Lutheran Church Swede Home with about 190 guests. A program included piano duets scripture and prayer poetry and Swedish songs plus tributes from family and friends. Attending from afar were Walter Johnson Omaha Roswell Johnson Lincoln Winnie Johnson York and Eding Valpariso.

The Record and Osceola Fire Department seek donations toward an 800 gallon water tank on a truck to supplement rural firefighting. The goal is $1,000, with over one third already subscribed in three weeks. Contributions can be delivered to the Record office or Martin Roberts at Kepners or sent as checks to The Osceola Fire Department.

University of Wyoming senior Bob Smith from Laramie has been chosen May AWS student of the month for his duties as master of ceremonies on the Wyoming Days tour. He has been business manager and editor of the Wyoming annual, member of Omicron Delta Kappa Pi Delta Epsilon Kappa Sigma Scabbard and Blade, with a 1.94 grade average. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Glen Smith. the family formerly lived in Osceola where his father managed the local Farmers Union store.
The Nebraska Methodist Conference last week announced Rev. Homer P. Bollinger will return to Osceola. He enters his seventh year there as the Osceola Methodist Church building program progresses. His return, while expected, was formally verified by the conference and welcomed by many friends.
Kenneth Schmidt reports on the June 25 referendum in which wheat growers will vote on 1956 marketing quotas. A two thirds yes is needed to keep quotas and penalties. a no vote ends quotas but price support remains under allotment. Eligible farmers in commercial wheat states are urged to vote after studying the issues.
Miss Mary Jean Anderson and Glen Kuchera of Omaha were married at St. Paul Lutheran Church Osceola with Rev. Robert Johnson officiating. The ceremony included music by Mrs. Otto Nelson and vows before immediate family. The couple plans a weeklong honeymoon in Excelsior Springs Missouri before settling in Omaha.
The league leaves Siglers undefeated after Maleks edged Crouses by one run 12 11. Siglers now top the standings at 6 0 while Crouses and Maleks sit 5 1. Upcoming game Thursday pits Siglers against Crouses with league officers warning a Friday June 10 Legion Club meeting for important business. Top hitters include W McKeag L Heimer H Campain and others with several players at or near .500 batting averages.
Wesley Chapel Club meets with Mrs. Rech in David City on June 15. Stoner Club gathers June 15 at 2 PM at Mrs. LeRoy Brown home. Beulah Cemetery Society elects officers on June 17. Garden Club hosts Miss Lesta Mace June 15 with bouquet for a shut in patient. Osceola East ern Star meets June 14 with guests Polk and Silver Creek invited. Jobs Daughters install and dance June 10 at the high school. Legion Auxiliary meeting moved to June 24 at 8 PM with Girls State rep.
Warranty deed transfers the West 125 feet of Lot 2 in Block 9 of Buckley’s Addition to Stromsburg from Howell W. Cox and wife to Clyde W. Ericson. The transaction records the property transfer between named individuals and refers to the specific lot and block within the addition.
Moisture from two heavy rain events over the past two weeks lifts outlooks for crops in Polk County. Wheat and oats are still limited, but corn shows strong growth and replanting ended, with many areas reporting fair yields and improved conditions despite prior drought.
Polk County American Red Cross announces this year’s swimming program with beginner and intermediate classes and a life saving course. First beginner class starts Monday June 20 at Osceola pool for three weeks, five days a week, enrolling children from Ni ceola and Shelby.
The Rowan Standard Service marks its official opening at the station on June 10 11 and 12 with prizes and special services. The new station has operated for about two months and will offer treats for kids and a special deal for the ladies as part of the event.

Five Polk County 4-H club members Davida Sundberg Meredith Lamoree Sondra Hill Gary Baker and Robert Lamoreee attended 4-H Club Week May 30 to June 3 earning their Omaha trip through 1954 awards. Womens Extension Clubs funded a scholarship for Marlene Anderson of Stromsburg who will study at Wesleyan this summer preparing for teaching this fall. Next year the scholarship goes to a Polk High School graduate pursuing home economics or nursing training.
Calvary Lutheran Church choir of Swede Home sponsors a hymn sing Sunday evening June 12 at eight at the Swede Home church. The informal program features hymns by choir and congregation, solos duets and quartets plus organ and piano duets. Public invited.
Mrs Garfield Moline of Mead was weekend guest of her sister Mrs Oscar Jones and family. They were dinner guests Sunday of Mr Richard Peterson at Ceresco.
Lincoln Nebraska Game Commission reminds youths 16 and older to obtain a fishing license before fishing. With summer break, many young anglers overlook birthdays that trigger permit needs. The St. Vincent Parish vaca tion school dinner celebrated Father Howe’s 16th anniversary of ordination with guests including his mother Mrs. Clare Howe and sisters Emerentia and Pachomia O S F. A hand painted bouquet was given by Avis Waller and a cake from Mrs. Gerhardt Lux. Father Howe, ordained June 3 1939 by Cardinal Stritch, has led St. Vincent Osceola and St. Andrew's since Sept 18 19486.
IOOF and Rebekah Lodges will hold a joint memorial service at the IOOF Hall on Monday evening June 13 at 8 30 p m. All members are urged to attend.
