The 100th Polk County Fair looms with four and a half weeks to go as 4 H members race to finish projects and drivers seek for the demolition derby. Board Advances Plans for Salvage and School Updates
The District 19 Board of Education met on Monday June 2 approving a new school dishwasher hiring two full time teacher aides Alice Dunn and Nadine Johansen a Honeywell heating controls service contract and repairs to the elementary furnace and pump. They discussed temporary football practice site moves plans for a central library in the elementary building and the dedication of the new high school. Cecile Waldman and Steven Smolik were named art and instrumental music teachers with fourth grade and special education positions still open. An auction of surplus equipment will be held in the fall and plans for salvaging the old building will be discussed with a salvage company.

A maintenance crew 4 miles north of York cut 50 buried telephone wires causing service outages from 3:15 to about 5:45 affecting Gresham Benedict Polk Osceola Bromsburg. Lincoln Telephone official Willard Waltke said repairs finished by 5:45. In sports, Osceola plays Wahoo at 2:15 p.m. after Columbus league departure. Humphrey Osceola game rescheduled to 8:00 p.m. June 18 in Humphrey.
