Osceola wins a tight Polo county game against Polk at the local lot last Sunday with two home runs by Polk. Danny Hayes starred as manager batter and baserunner while Osceola took the edge in pinch hitting. Final score Osceola seven Polk five in a game loaded with hits and notable baserunning.
Shelby residents hosted visitors from Havre and Spokane while others traveled to Omaha and Topeka. Mrs. Swan and G. W. Bland handled the Strain furniture shop during the proprietor's absence. Floods in southwestern Nebraska disrupted communications, but Curtis and Sawyer families reported they were safe. A two week vacation school led by three York nuns opened at Sacred Heart church. Lucille McKeag entered the Lincoln School of Commerce, and rainfall since the last issue measured two inches in the area.
Jerseys from Hamilton York Polk and Seward counties compete in a district parish show at York City Park on June 12 from 10 AM to 4 PM. Maurice Flick reports 53 head entered with more anticipated. ribbons to top five in each class.
Miss Edna Pratt a former Osceola High School student recently completed studies at Rice Institute in Houston Texas The graduation marks a milestone in her educational career reflecting achievement and local ties to Osceola.
A sweep of social notes lists Emil Ehn and family as Sunday diners at Harold Carlson’s near Central City, Dr. and Mrs. J B Williams visiting Hastings, and trips to Red Cloud in the flood area. Memorial Day and Decoration Day gatherings span Hastings, York, Cairo, Loup City, and Greeley with numerous relatives. A small Polk County twister caused minor damage Sunday.
Leo Wurtz attended the Osceola ball game Sunday while residents noted stronger winds in York county. Mr and Mrs Charles Eckles and Mr and Mrs Henry Reed visited in Osceola Sunday. The Earl Waggoner family sold their household goods at public auction Saturday ahead of moving to California.
Miss Florence Anderson and Reuel Sward drove to Omaha on Friday. Miss Naomi Sward in Omaha with her brother to spend Sunday with Rev and Mrs C A Sward. Rudolf Samuelson and family visit Cape Cod relatives. Swede Home church program June 7 at 8 pm with Swedish numbers and Swedish refreshments. Norma Carlson Stromsburg week with Sylvia Fredrickson. Joe Monson entertained at Morris Johnson home Hardville. Swede Plain Ladies Aid meets June 12 led by Mrs Widga hostesses. Rudolf Sandin family visit sister Van Doren in Omaha. Ellen Sandin returns to Omaha. Swede Home Ladies Aid surprises Mrs Albert Johnson on her birthday. Anna Olson, employed in Omaha, visits mother Mrs Mabel Olson Swede Home.
A shower at John Staroscik’s for Celia Prososki prior to her June 4 marriage to John Asborn of Columbus. Various weekend and Sunday visits to neighbors in Shelby Columbus Bellwood Osceola and Osceola area plus St Anne’s Altar Society event planned at Mrs John Hahn’s home.
Harold Jarmin and his children visited Wesley Chapel after heavy rains caused detours. Osceola hosted Decoration Day exercises with former residents Wilbur Seger Arlington and Harry Seger Iowa City present. An old iron house south of District 40 collapsed after years of neglect. Community members urged to attend the June 10 school meeting. Lila McBeth returned from a two week Osceola visit.
The Barber Brothers completed a large display room and warehouse at their service station. The Stromsburg baseball club beat Silver Creek 14 to 5 on Sunday. Plans are set for the Lewis Headstrom marker dedication in City Park on Sunday June 16 with Mrs J A Frawley of Shelbyville Indiana and daughters attending and J N Norton delivering the address. Edna and Marie Olson visited Fremont for summer teaching at Midland College. Myrtle Nelson will visit relatives in Lander Wyoming. Mary and Margaret Buckley returned from Lincoln. Gust Granberg family to Sweden for extended stay. Elmer Allison, injured ten days ago, is recovering in an Omaha hospital. Mr and Mrs Arthur Anderson and son of Polk plus Lester Anderson of Osceola were guests of Mrs Anna Anderson and Mrs Esther Lamb. Fusby family reunion at Scott Hall had 108 relatives, with a noon dinner and letters from absentees.
After rain the Memorial Day program at Rivoli Theatre under the American Legion featured Walter Raecke delivering the address. The American Legion Quartette led songs and audience joined in “America” and “The Star Spangled Banner” before a parade to Osceola Cemetery for veterans’ graves, volley, and taps.
The Federation invokes a 5 000 homestead exemption proposal to shield owner occupied homes and farms from tax up to 5 000. It plans state wide meetings and aims for 100 000 memberships with a ballot measure at the next Nebraska election. Public inquiries go to the Lincoln home office.

Polk County allotment committee received listing sheets for 1934 corn hog contracts and sent a letter to prepare contracts for signing. Work aims to sign contracts next week with 1935 supervision starting this month. Residents may apply at the Osceola county office or request a mail blank, ensuring the contract covers their home farm. Those opposed to the agricultural adjustment administration cannot serve officially.
Frank Langhammer, patient under Dr. R. L. Schroeder, returned home Tuesday after several days of treatment. Vernon Thelander, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Thelander, shows slight improvement and remains at Osceola Hospital with Dr. R. L. Schroeder after a serious auto accident injuries. Reuben Berglund was dismissed from Osceola Hospital following an operation by Dr. R. L. Schroeder. Charles Moser had an appendicitis operation at Osceola Hospital Tuesday morning by Dr. R. L. Schroeder. Florence Kantor, daughter of John Kantor, underwent appendicitis surgery yesterday morning by Dr. R. L. Schroeder.
Miss Pearl Viola Miller and Albert H. McNeely were married at 11 o clock Sunday morning June 2 at the Scotia Methodist Church. Rev. N B Calloway conducted the ceremony. McNeely is employed by the Union Pacific Railroad Company.
U. S. Bare from the college of agriculture will hold a bee demonstration at the Henry Parker apiary in Stromsburg on Tuesday June 11 at 1 p m. Topics include summer management swarm control disease identification and control supering for comb and extracted honey and other attendee questions. All bee enthusiasts are invited to attend.
Miss Hileen Enyeart daughter of Mr and Mrs L J Enyeart north of Shelby married William Koehler son of Mr and Mrs John Koehler of Silver Creek at noon Sunday June 2 at the Methodist Church in Silver Creek Rev H A Taylor officiated. Attendants were Miss Glennis Koehler and Orville Enyeart. The bride a Columbus High School graduate class of 1932 has worked in a Columbus store. The groom a Silver Creek High School graduate 1930 has farmed and helped in the family meat market. They have no definite plans for the future.
