Rooster Day Draws Large Osceola Crowd
A Saturday event in Osceola drew a large crowd both afternoon and evening. The community club sponsored the sale of 2931 pounds of roosters. Prizes went to Mrs. Ray Coker for traveling the longest distance and Clarence Johnson for delivering 33 roosters. A free Rivoli Theatre matinee and a free dance at Kelly's Hall capped the day.

Fire Destroys Feed Rack In Shelby Residence Blaze
A Friday blaze at the QC. A. Watkins residence in northwest Shelby started as a bonfire that spread to a feed rack, burning hay and threatening a nearby barn. Firefighters quickly extinguished it with no serious damage. Local notices include family visits, a wedding, and church devotions.

Mrs Hugh McGaiffin Dies In Lincoln Nebraska
Mrs Hugh McGaffin died suddenly Tuesday morning at her sister Mrs H E Ayers home in Lincoln from a heart attack. She had gone to Lincoln three weeks ago to spend the summer with her son William and sister. She is survived by husband, son William, two daughters Mrs D B Carter of Omaha and Mrs Wallace Scott of Stromsburg, parents Mr and Mrs C W Derby of Mitchell, several brothers and sisters and six grandchildren. Funeral at 1 30 this afternoon at the Polk home with interment at Bellwood Cemetery.

Memorial Day Observed in Osceola At Rivoli Theatre
Decoration Day services were held in Osceola Tuesday morning at the Rivoli Theatre with the American Legion and Auxiliary in charge. A large crowd attended despite a fine day. Rev. Maxcy led the invocation and the Legion quartet sang as the audience joined in America and The Star Spangled Banner. Lawrence I. Shaw of Omaha, former Osceola boy and assistant U S District Attorney, gave the address. Rev. Wright pronounced the benediction and graves were decorated at the cemetery.

Summer School At State University Offers Rural Teacher Course
The University of Nebraska will run a six week summer session from June 9 to July 21 featuring a rural teachers course directed by Dr. Clara O. Wilson. A rural demonstration school will model rural instruction within Raymond Hall facilities and thirteen visiting lecturers will join the regular staff. Railroads provide round trip rates at one fare and a third, enabling students to travel to Lincoln and back economically.

Former Resident Laid To Rest
Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church for Mrs. Norris Campbell a former Osceola resident who died at her son’s home in Atlantic Iowa after a long illness. Interment followed in Osceola Cemetery. She was 72 and had lived in Nebraska Oregon Texas Bridgewater and finally Atlantic with her husband Norris S Campbell and children including A H Campbell Alfred Campbell and Mabel Suliver. Short services were also held at the Osborn Tomlinson funeral home with Rev L M Grigsby presiding.
