A small tornado touched the northwest part of the community Friday, wrecking shacks and trees, lifting a hay rack and threshing grain losses at Nels Hasselbalch farm. Fire at Glen Chase’s barn drew onlookers. Chase had just threshing complete and insurance partly covers the loss.

Polk Boy Drowns Near Hordville in Sand Pit
Wallace Stromberg 17 of Polk drowns in a sand pit 2.25 miles northwest of Hordville on Sunday afternoon. He went with Harold Carlson of Polk around 4:30 p.m. and was missing after more than an hour. Leonard Wallin of Hordville recovered the body in 10 feet of water. Efforts at resuscitation failed. survived by parents Mr and Mrs Oscar Stromberg and brother Robert of Washington, D.C.

Popular Duncan Man Is Killed After Highway Crash
John P. Sokol fifty of Duncan died at 1230 Monday after a two car wreck on the S Y A highway twelve miles west of Lincoln. The crash injured his two sons and eight others in the other car. Sokol died of a crushed chest after being thrown from his vehicle. All injured were taken to St Elizabeth hospital where no one else is in immediate danger. He and his brother Leo Sokol recently secured a contract to gravel roads north of Osceola.
