Rural elementary school annual report shows total expenditures 1145.13 with average daily attendance 16 and average cost per pupil 71.57. Districts maintaining both elementary and high school grades report for 1929-30 school year.
Rain cooled nights bring relief as many Shelby residents visit relatives and attend informal gatherings. The report lists numerous residents from Shelby Osborne Rising City Osceola Omaha and surrounding towns visiting kin, attending church clubs and summer schools, and traveling to Columbus and Fullerton for events and funerals.
All women enrolled in extension project clubs are invited to the annual mothers vacation camp at Deweese in Clay County from July 29 to August 1. County Agent Kelly is sending enrollment blanks. The Deweese camp is Hastings Kiwanis Camp on the Little Blue River and has hosted women’s clubs for years with Polk County representatives attending. Mrs. E. C. Meaden of Stromsburg, a Nebraska Farm Bureau Federation director, will speak.
An airplane carrying three men crashed into Mrs. May Lewis's Polk home on Saturday. Pilot Ivan Moline suffered slight scratches due to dead air. E W Leeds of Stromsburg and Herbert Rogzow escaped injuries as crowds gathered after the wreck.

The 4 H club camp at Seward opens Monday July 28 for members and leaders from nearby Nebraska counties. Activities run 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Wednesday with a $2.50 enrollment covering meals dishes use of a cat and daily swim at Seward Park. Polk County sent 28 delegates last year and many plan to return. girls have raised funds with candy sales ice cream socials and magazine subscriptions.
Dry hot weather across much of the state prompts holding wheat at current prices as feed insurance. If drought persists and the 1930 corn crop is light, wheat may prove cheaper feed than corn in fall. Ground wheat makes a better hog feed than corn per bushel and can be used for poultry and dairy rations in various mixes.
The Wesley Chapel Woman's Club met on Thursday July 17 with twelve members and ten visitors present. Members shared a threshing menu during roll call. Sudan grass yields better hog pasture when mowed regularly to keep back tall woody stems. Even in hot dry conditions it regrows a little and provides feed. Rye offers good temporary pasture in Nebraska during late fall and early spring and is now inexpensive. Hog lots and small fields can be prepared and seeded in August or early September for future pasture.

A Grand Island firm that developed the Kelly deep water well, first built in 1917, now operates nationwide. It manufactures well screens and casings, performs underground surveys, and advises on well construction. Paul’s Lutheran Church announces a Thursday lawn party at 8 30 pm hosted by the Andersons and Miss Mary Anderson. Deacons meet Friday at the parsonage. Sunday worship includes Sunday School at 10 am, English Worship at 11 am, and English Vesper Bible Study at 8 pm. Pastor will vacation. Melville Sjostrand will lead during absence arriving Aug 3–9.
