First County Polio Case Reported In Osceola Last Week
Mary Ellen Nyberg a two year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Philip Nyberg is the first polio victim in the county this year. She was taken to a Grand Island hospital last Thursday and placed in isolation. Paralysis appeared in her left leg and by Monday she was improving and taking food. Gamma Globulin was given to nearby children and some adults to prevent further outbreak. No additional cases had been reported in the county by press time. The National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis seeks more funds and Polk County plans to join the drive.

Polk County farmer killed in tractor accident near Duncan
Harold A. Kreuger 42 farmed near Duncan and died crossing the Platte river bed when a tractor with a manure loader bogged in quicksand. He attempted to dig out, fastened fenceposts to the wheels, and the mounted loader struck him. Survived by wife Irene Ernst and several relatives.
