Bicentennial Day At Polk County Fair Features Old Time Entertainment
Bicentennial activities at the Polk County Centennial Fair included a domino contest won by Mim Peterson and Orion Hansen, horse shoe champs Howard Liedtke and Warren Johnson, and a United States Air Force band parade from Offutt Air Base. Open class float winners were Osceola Chamber of Commerce, Stromsburg Swede Royalty, and Osceola Volunteer Fire Department. The 4-H parade crowned Sugar and Spice, Pins and Pans, and Challengers. Old time demonstrations, a flea market, and quilting and craft displays complemented art, sculpture, and pioneer room exhibits. The Chautauqua program opened with the Gettysburg Address and a community chorus, closing with Bicentennial certificates. A 18-hole Ladies Golf Tournament drew 52 players from nine towns. Medalist Frances Heins led in the Championship flight, with Mary Lou Stallings prevailing. Awards covered multiple flights and prizes, followed by a buffet lunch.
