Nebraska game commission reveals from the first 500 applications that 1950 special deer season permits have been requested by hunters from 80 of 93 counties. Merrick and Polk each submitted seven applications.

Polk County Agricultural Society announces the Polk County Fair will run August 21 22 and 23. A new Strong Amusement Company Carnival headlines Midway entertainment with free acts by Williams and Lee and Jerry Hedrick. Events include baseball tractor derby riding show and more. The National Crochet Contest offers a $500 national prize and trip to New York or Chicago if the local entrant wins and advances. June posts driest month since 1936 southern region

Harold Klingman reports Polk County received 1.44 inches of rain in June, well below the 4.25 inch normal. Temperatures ran about 2 percent above normal. Only mid month had measurable rain with datesJuly 14 and 27 and 15 a trace. 17 recorded .64, 18 .48, and 20 .05. Despite drought, corn growth remained normal and the hottest day hit 98 degrees on June 22.

Dr Kelley to enter naval duty at San Diego

County Rural Radio Association Organizes at Stromsburg

Stanley Harless Polk County Rural Radio Chairman announced precinct captains were chosen at a meeting in Stromsburg. The committee includes Orville Hennings Wallace Logan Oscar Boden Elton Berck Mrs Sam Wyman Kenneth Meyers Guilford Bryan and Mrs Lloyd Hahn. The group will recruit workers in each precinct to complete rural radio membership after harvest. The station has license to operate a farmer and rancher owned outlet at Lexington with 23000 watts on frequency 2010. Funding comes from $10 membership certificates and loans from individuals and organizations.
