The Cudahy Egg and Poultry plants at Alma and Clay Center shut their doors Saturday night due to excess production. Officials cited inability to profitably dispose of eggs and related products despite steady business.
The new Drive-In Theatre in Columbus opens Friday evening June 30. It sits on a 10 mile tract of the highway between US and 81 with Columbus News noting the launch.
Mary Marjorie Neville daughter of Mr and Mrs Will Neville of Blue Vale was among 17 young ladies admitted to the Benedictine order at high mass on Friday June 23 in Yankton South Dakota. Her new name is Sister May Eileen.
Don Hughes filling a tank truck at 2 40 Monday afternoon when fire began at the four compartment openings and spread to the east wall after being sprayed by gas from the hose. The blaze was controlled with little effort. three compartments were full and the fourth nearly full preventing an explosion. Scotia Register
Jerome E Roszczynielski 19 of Loup City died when the truck he drove failed to stay on the highway north of Seward and crashed into a creek. He was dead when removed from the wreck.
Over the past several days two robberies occurred in the area. Saturday night thieves broke into the R. L. Engstrom farm home near Genoa and stole a table model radio a combination waffle iron and grill and several articles of clothing. Tuesday evening tools valued at about $40 a log chain spare tire and wheel were taken from the Frank Egnoski car parked on a Fullerton street.
Next week F. G. Metzger debuts as editor of the Central City paper. He arrives from Friend Nebraska where he edits the Central City Republican.
McLeod Post 47 American Legion organized a whisker club on Tuesday night to raise money for the annual Labor Day celebration. Beard growing starts July 5 with options for mustache or sideburns. participants may forgo a full beard.
An afternoon and evening program for July 4 is scheduled next Tuesday at Riverside park. Sponsoring groups are the Riverside park association and Lone Tree Post No 6 of the American Legion Central City Nonpareil.
Max Leverett Caudill owner of St. Paul Sand and Gravel Co dies after falling into the North Loup river last Friday while freeing a rock from a gravel pump. A head wound behind the ear is noted. He leaves a widow and four children. St Paul Phonograph.
The Osceola Chamber of Commerce voted to sponsor a fundraising campaign to improve the City Swimming Pool and Park. Plans include new picnic benches tennis court upgrades playground equipment and spectator benches. Ed Almstrom chairs the fund raising committee with Leroy Johnson and Bert Gissler as members. Contributions are invited from Osceola business men and will be used solely for park and pool improvements.
A quarter inch rainfall Tuesday afternoon cooled temperatures and boosted crop prospects. Reports from other parts of the county indicate heavier rainfall, improving conditions after several weeks without rain.
Wheat ripened fast in Polk County with early reports of binding and some fields cut in Merrick County. Estimates place county average around 20 bushels, with some fields up to 25 to 40 bushels, and local markets at $2.00 a bushel as favorable conditions boost prospects barring hail.
Circus advance publicity teams had arranged with the Osceola Fire Department for a show at the Fair Grounds but no appearance occurred. Local observers reported the troupe possibly performing in Kansas earlier in the week, with sponsors offering no explanation for the change in itinerary.

Vehicle value grew to 1 453 130 with 3553 registered units. total farm valuation reached 13 396 945 on 276 085 acres. personal property stands at 7 968 136. other assets include cattle 1 266 530 horses 20 300 hogs 313 955 and tractors 517 385.
St Edwards edged Osceola 5 to 3 in a Central Nebraska League contest Sunday. Toline pitched the complete game as the box score follows.
Viola Orene Hicks daughter of Joseph and Sarah Newcomber died at her son John in Osceola on June 23 1950 at age 67. She first married John G Foster in 1902 and had 12 children, five of whom survived. later she married LeRoy Hicks and seven of her children survived. Surviving relatives include Lulu Smith Townsend Mont Lucille McBeth Viola Engel Lincoln Nebr four sons Norman Lloyd Swede Home Ore John Everett Osceola and six grandchildren and two brothers. She was a Methodist and laid to rest in Rosemond cemetery Thayer Nebraska.
C Ragnar Carlson of the Flying Farmers of America and George Mace of Osceola flew to Chicago last week for the Meigs Field dedication. They departed Thursday at seven and arrived around eleven after one fuel stop. An estimated crowd of over one thousand flying farmers attended echoed by hospitality from local businesses.
W H Bert Smith resigns from the Polk and Butler County Farmers Insurance Company after 14 years due to ill health. He leaves the secretary post he has held since 1937 and the board appoints Victor Sterup of Osceola to fill the vacancy.
J. C. Thygeson aged 74, father of Osceola resident Mrs. Paul Monson, died last Friday in a Nebraska City hospital after about a week there. A longtime druggist in Nebraska City, he is survived by his widow, a son and two daughters. Funeral services were held Monday in Nebraska City with interment there. Dr. and Mrs. W. F. Monson, Mrs. Hannah Monson and Dwight Bush attended.
Funeral services for Emma C. Gylling age 90 were held Wednesday morning in a Lincoln chapel. She had lived in Lincoln for several years after leaving Osceola, where the Gylling children were raised as Mr. Gylling worked as a blacksmith.
A summer wedding was celebrated on Saturday July 1 at 10 a m in St Vincent de Paul Church Chicago. Miss Mary Louise Ienn daughter of Mr and Mrs August Ienn Osceola became the wife of Don J MacKenzie son of Mr and Mrs Robert J MacKenzie Chicago with a nuptial high mass. The attendants were Miss Helen Jenn and John Ek MacKenzie. Francis Jenn was usher. A wedding breakfast followed at the Del Prado Hotel. The couple will reside at 7717 South Luella Ave Chicago after a two week honeymoon.
The city park committee says the east edge courts will be ready for play Saturday after recent work. Season tickets are $1.00 and available at the swimming pool where the gate key is kept.
Wesley Koehler filed June 29 on the Republican ticket seeking election as County Assessor. The document records his candidacy and party affiliation for the forthcoming county race.
A weekly notice states a resident of a farm can claim an 8 by 10 glossy photo at the Record office in Osceola by identifying it satisfactorily.
The Osceola Juniors defeated Central City 11 to 1 on Friday. Ronnie Swanson pitched the complete game with nine strike-outs five walks and two hits allowed. Swanson also had a one-base hit while Gabriel added two two-base hits and Glatter a three-base hit.
A welcome party was held at the W R Kepner home last Wednesday evening with hostesses Mrs Herman Anderson and Mrs W H Kepner. A buffet dinner was served at seven thirty followed by cards. A gift was presented to the honored couple by the hostesses.

Rev. and Mrs. A. E. Franzen with their children depart for a month visiting relatives in Canada and Minnesota. Supply pastors and laymen will conduct weekly services at the Swede Home Church during his absence.

Mrs. W. W. Norton hosted a Friday dinner at 7 30 honoring Miss Janet Kepner and Mrs. Ramon Hansen with slipper shaped place cards and pink white floral decor. Electric irons were presented as gifts. A second gathering followed on Saturday at Mrs. Le Roy Rhodes in Caroline with a dessert supper and hostess gift.
