Polk County finances dip slightly from a year ago per the semi annual report by Treasurer L M Smith. Total funds at June 30 amount to 95417 50 with last year 98299 73. Warrants registered for Emergency Relief total 3053 94. No unpaid claims. Corn Loans Extended for Polk County Farmers
Polk county farmers may extend government seal corn loans for 12 months from August 1, 1939 to August 1, 1940. The extension covers 625 bushels of 1937 crop corn and 148,655 bushels of 1988 crop corn resealed at 57 cents per bushel. Farmers receive 5 cents per bushel if they deliver corn to pay the loan at the end of the term. Storage advances and renewed liens are provided for additional storage. Extensions run to October 1, 1939 with no deliveries on non resealed corn until September 1, 1939.

Mrs. Edward Marker died at her Rising City home on Wednesday July 8 at age 81 11 16 after a broken hip from a fall. She leaves her husband seven children Frank Carl George and Mrs Atkinson of Rising City Mrs Gertie Harris and Ray of Guernsey Wyoming and Mrs Pearl Stewart of Beatrice Nebr 22 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Interment was in Osceola cemetery after services at the Rising City home.
