Bricklayers add rows of new brick to the northwest corner of the bank building while sandblasting the rear as customers use a rear entrance. The effort aims for a new exterior with a lobby display showing the planned look.
Osceola City Council met with a quorum present for the July session. Chief Harry Frye outlined his first ten days of duty while council discussed the 1975 76 budget, pending department estimates, and a special meeting for budget setup.
News notes Alice Gustafson became ill while visiting California and is now a patient at Doctors Hospital Lakewood in Lakewood California. Mrs H S Eklund was dismissed from Bryan Memorial Hospital in Lincoln. Elsie Stewart transferred from Clarkson Hospital Omaha to Annie Jeffrey Hospital Osceola. The budget suggests installing six inch water mains in the future to improve fire protection.

A 1975 graduate of the University of Nebraska Law School has joined Mills and Mills. Alan Gless of Schuyler will start the Osceola office July 14. He and his wife Dianne moved from Dorchester in June after teaching home economics. They are Schuyler High School alumni, Catholics, married 3 1/2 years, and enjoy swimming basketball and reading history.
Funeral services were held at Trinity Church West Point for Alfred Chantry 72 former general manager of the Nebraska Generation and Transmission Cooperative and safety director for the Nebraska Rural Electrification Association He died Wednesday Burial was at Mt Hope Cemetery West Point He is survived by his wife Mary a son James A of Valley Nebraska a daughter Mrs Frank Court of Raleigh North Carolina eight grandchildren one great grandchild brothers A J of Carter Lake Iowa Frank A of Orange California sisters Jane Ross Masamas Wash Lillian Haning Sidney Mildred Rhode Tabor and Melvyina Hulsebus Orange California many nieces and nephews
A Polk County farming lineage reaches 100 years on the same land near Shelby. The Joseph R. Kinnan family bought Section 13 15 1W Clear Creek Precinct in 1864 for $7 an acre from Union Pacific agent John McPheeters. Today 480 acres remain in the family as a centennial farming tradition continues.
Polk County marks Bicentennial Day at the fair on July 16 with a 10 am domino contest in the former 4 H building led by Victor Sterup and Reverend Grenville Christensen, followed by a parade, youth bicycle rodeo, horseshoe contest, demonstrations, and art shows. An 8:20 pm Chautauqua show and puppet performance close the program with no admission charge.
A group of 60 young Swedes will give a concert at St Pauls Lutheran Church in Osceola on July 15 at 8 pm. The program features chorales, spirituals, gospel, Swedish folk songs and classical pieces. Founded in 1955 by Erik Karp, the ensemble tours the Midwest and Illinois with Staffan Sandlund as featured singer.
