Misses Anne Kresha Josephine Persak and Josephine Swzercek all of Lincoln and Mr and Mrs John Kresha and daughters of Osceola were Sunday dinner guests in the Adolph Kresha Jr home. Cyrus Jancek of Lincoln visited with his parents in Columbus and also with friends here over the weekend. George Kresha is spending a few days visiting this week with his brother eLo Kresha and family near Osceola. John Jaax Jr and daughters of near Shelby visited Friday evening with the John Staroscik family.

Kenneth Strand 22 son of Oscar Strand prominent Polk business man died at Central City after being found injured beside his overturned car in a ditch on the highway west of Central City. He suffered a fractured skull and died shortly after at the hospital. Funeral services were held at the home and Methodist Church with interment in Saronville cemetery. Other notes report local social visits and events in Polk and nearby towns.
Two one dollar bills found in a bill fold were sold for 25 cents at a Saturday auction. Oscar Hedberg purchased the lot along with other small articles, illustrating the cautionary moral Dont look before you buy.
Charles W. Neal, a former Colorado convict, is slated to go on trial within two months in Crippie Creek Colorado for the murder of Columbus Nebraska milliner Ida Hanson. The state will seek the death penalty. The case centers on a body found June 4 1933 in Florissant Colorado after being set afire with the skull crushed and left side bruised.
District No 62 reports Joe Fjell returning from Columbus St Marys Hospital. Families including the Petersons Falks Hanshew Forss Lundstrom attend gatherings and celebrate birthdays and a 15th wedding anniversary. Irvin Forss and the Falks make the honor roll with 90 percent or higher. District play The Clay's the Thing planned with date to be announced.
The 14th annual installment of Osceola Paving is due and delinquent after February 7. Taxpayers should note that interest will be charged on any unpaid installment after the due date.
Mrs Wm Lux of North Bend visited Shelby with her husband joining for an over Sunday stay at her parents Mr and Mrs C E Hastert. The Scow sisters Bessie and Helen returned to Lincoln with their parents after a weekend at home. Dorcas Society met at Mrs E Casselberry's. Oliver and Edward Scow returned from three weeks in San Diego. Joseph Lux left a Kearney hospital after an operation to return home. A quilting party was held at Mrs W B Michener's. nine ladies attended and enjoyed berry pie and coffee. W H Birth remains ill under Dr Brillhart. Dorothy Gondringer takes a forced vacation. Evelyn Babcock substitutes. Peggy Shanahan visited from North Bend. Mrs Russell Blevins and baby went to Emanuel Hospital in Omaha. her mother Mrs Wm Clancy remains nearby. Mrs Frank Scholz cut her legs on a clothes line snag, severing a vein. Dr Brillhart attended her and she is improving. The Clancy party from Imperial visited the Blevins home on the way to Omaha. Mrs Clancy stayed with her daughter during illness.
Polk county farmers plan large spring plantings for windbreaks and woodlots, ordering Clarke McNary stock rapidly. Through Nebraska the extension service reports 200,000 trees already ordered statewide, with 1,125,950 seedlings distributed in 1934 to 4,061 farmers despite drought and 25 percent survival.
The Junior Department of the Women's Club organized with 18 members on January 11 at Mrs. Dewey Sigler's home. Officers elected include President Irene Grossnicklaus and Treasurer Louise Smith. The club will have Artcraft and Drama divisions led by Mrs. W. O. Fudge and Mrs. A. E. Nuquist, alternating every two weeks.
Craig and Ruth Marjory Miller of Strassburg Colorado spend the week with their aunt Mrs F B Kelly and family. Their parents Mr and Mrs Raymond Miller who have been visiting relatives at Ashland will join them later in the week.
Nebraska corn hog producers will sign an application to vote at annual meetings electing 1935 community committeemen and county board members. Landlords may vote with tenant signatures. The process includes land appraisal, county summaries, state review approval, contract preparation, and contract signing. Officials hope contracts ready by planting time with signings in late April or May, treating 1934 benefits as 1935 crop returns.
A Lincoln Journal note argues that a typical income slice carries many taxes. It claims a third of national income is paid in taxes, with thirty to forty-five taxes on various actions like driving, and eighty-two tax ways in Minnesota.

Osceola edged Stromsburg 18-15 on Stromsburg home court after a 6-1 first quarter lead. Pierson hit a center shot in the final minute to seal the win as Burgeson and Randall powered Osceola with 123 points between them.

Mrs. Warren Scharfenburg was released from Osceola Hospital on Tuesday. A son born to Mr. and Mrs. David Jones at Osceola Hospital on Sunday is named Duane David. Mrs. Jones formerly Miss Florence Timm. Lester McCormick announces birth of daughter Hillis Ann at Osceola Hospital on Monday afternoon. Ed Keith, injured in a highway auto crash west of Osceola, was released to his York home. Mrs. Grant Walgren and Robert Charles returned home northwest of town yesterday.
