Farm Home Destroyed by Fire Near Osceola
The farm home of Gus Hedwiger, ten miles north of Osceola in Island precinct, burned early Saturday due to a defective flue. A roof hole allowed the blaze to be re ignited and the house burned to the ground, with second floor furniture a total loss. Estimated damage about 4000 dollars, about half insured. The Hedwigers saved belongings from the first floor. Hedwiger family faced prior misfortunes including a fragmented year with a child’s broken leg and Mrs Hedwiger recovering from oil stove burns.

Annual Banquet Postponed To February 11
The Farm Bureau board postpones the annual family fun feed to February 11 at 6:30 p.m. due to snow and cold roads. A long distance call to Lincoln arranged W. H. Brokain of the extension service to speak at the banquet. All plans move to the new date at the Methodist Church dining room in Osceola.

New Fire Truck Answers First Call
The new fire truck responded yesterday morning around eleven to a blaze at the Fred Timm residence on the ridge now occupied by the C. G. Ekstrom family. Mr Ekstrom had used a blow torch to thaw frozen pipes under the sink and the fire spread between the room walls. Water failed to control it and the department arrived with chemicals to extinguish the flames.

Four-H Club Growth in Nebraska Tops Corn Belt
In 1929 Nebraska enrolled 12,500 youths in 4-H clubs, a 47 percent rise from 1928, led by counties with extension agents and the state university. Burns Fatal to Osceola Woman in Nebraska Home
Funeral services were held for Mrs. Mary Dunning of Osceola Nebraska after she died from burns suffered when her clothing caught fire while tending a fire in her room late Wednesday night. She lived alone and is survived by two daughters, including Mrs. W. S. Austin of Osceola. Her husband preceded her in death.
