Private Raymond Wagner of Camp Barkaley Texas arrived for a ten day furlough and was hosted at a dinner by Mr and Mrs Ed Wagner. The thermometer fell to about twenty below zero with a 35 mph wind, producing heating difficulties in homes and businesses. Snow from Sunday drifted. roads remained passable. Mrs. Mary Grace Hutchinson, mother of Mrs. O F Coons, died January 16 of a heart attack in Argonia, Kansas. Funeral services were held there.

Pvt. Anton M. Pokorney 26 son of Mrs A E Pokorney Shelvy joined the U S Army December 2 and is stationed at Camp Robinson Arkansas. He worked at Bernt Grocery two years before enlistment. Osceola Bulldogs beat Shelby 27 12 in the first team game and 28 2 in the junior game with Gene Cole scoring 15 and Shutt high with 12 in the second game.

Emergency Aircraft Forced Landing Near Fair Grounds
A young army officer in a Piper Cub made a forced landing east of the fair grounds last Thursday afternoon due to motor trouble. A Grand Island mechanic repaired the plane the next day and the flier resumed flights Saturday. Sheriff Peterson and Deputy Leroy Johnson guarded the aircraft for two cold nights.
