The old St. Paul Business College building is in the final stages of razing by its owner to clear space for development in St. Paul. The St. Paul Phonograph notes the action as part of area redevelopment.
A small group from Fillmore and York counties pool funds to test for oil in the area. Drilling has begun near Strang in Fillmore, with plans to start in another York county site. Leases for exploration are already in place in both counties.
Blue Valley school District No. 35 marked its 75th anniversary with a Friday celebration on December 23. A full house attended a homecoming and program planned by Mrs. Mildred Henkel and students at Stromsburg Head light.
Severin Weinhoff of Lindsay died in a tractor accident Wednesday. His body was found late in the afternoon and authorities believe he was attempting to crank the tractor when in gear and was thrown against the elevator he was transporting behind the tractor.
At a special city council meeting the rest room project was placed in the city utilities office building as a potential location but no funding for remodeling was approved. The Colfax County Call noted the ongoing uncertainty about the project.
The report on Merrick County s CROP campaign to date is about 1500.00 by Hugh Mes ner, County CROP chairman. A car of honey was shipped by Kearney county Central City Republican.

Mrs. Edith Heilman, chairwoman of the Polk County Chapter of the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis, cites a national March of Dimes report finding about four in five adults over 15 testing positive for polio antibodies. Subclinical infections may confer resistance and explain higher spread than official case counts. Over $11,000 in March of Dimes funds are already used to seek prevention and lessen crippling effects.

John Grossnicklaus born June 13 1896 on the family farm north of Osceola died December 28 1949 aged 53 years 6 months 15 days He leaves daughter Alice Ruth of Grand Island brothers Ervin Roy Holly William and sister Violet Luft many relatives and friends Funeral services were held Friday at Kepner Funeral Home with interment in the Osceola family lot Pallbearers included Delmar Luft Ray Bob Harold Rex Grossnicklaus and Eugene Johansen.

Caroline Benda and Charles Jones enjoyed Christmas holidays with Louis Benda. John Stec Leo near Monroe and Marie Stec of Omaha visited the Micek home Wednesday. Adolph Bernt and son in law Arthur Mayberger near Columbus hosted Friday visitors. Ray Brigham Shelby visited New Year with Neil Brigham and Jackie Ray. Glatter and family plus James Alt near Shelby dined with John Kubicek and Ed. Leo Lassek called on Edward Lisko Friday. Frank Andersen hosted Grand Island visitors Tuesday. Wayne Gabel near Osceola visited Flamme family Sunday.
Installation of new fixtures at the Osceola Post Office is finished with minor jobs left. The project updates light partitions, windows for faster service, new tables and filing cabinets, and new flooring. Some patrons struggle with box access while learning new combinations. the redesign allows serving more townspeople with additional boxes per Postmaster F. W. Schumann.

Mr and Mrs Harold Hayhurst and family left last week for their Manson Washington home after Christmas with relatives. They stayed as Christmas guests in the Ross Richards home marking the first full family gathering in fifteen years.

Earnest Traugert Schneider born May 22 1877 in Neustadt Germany died aged 72 7 29. He immigrated as a child to Seward County later farmed near Gresham Polk County and worked as a farmer and stockman. Survived by wife Mary Jauch eight children 12 grandchildren one great grandchild and siblings Fred and Rose. Mrs. LeNore Ruff of Omaha visited Osceola Sunday and stayed with sister Mrs. Fred Dunn through Monday. Bruce Pickett and his wife spent New Year's Day in Silver Creek with the Floyd Frizzell family. Gus Carlson and Kasson Dolph of Central City were also guests there.
Polk County plans a county health institute during 1950 with Miss Helen Becker of the University of Nebraska Extension helping. A planning meeting is set for January 11 at 1 30 p m in Osceola District Court Room to discuss date, publicity, and topics such as sanitation nutrition farm safety and disease prevention.
People in Osceola can view the 1950 Chevrolet at Johnson Chevrolet Garage this Saturday January Vth. The car introduces many improvements notably the Power Glide automatic clutch. Optional in Deluxe models, the club will offer free coffee and doughnuts to visitors in the afternoon and evening.

Miss Doris Wieseman of Lincoln visited Viola Wieseman for the holiday weekend. Laura Lea Monson hosted classmates and friends at a Christmas gathering last Friday. They visited John Herrmann’s home, sang for Mrs Herrmann, then played games at the Monson residence, exchanged gifts, and had lunch.
Midwestern corn acreage may be reduced about 20 percent based on early estimates though not official. Local program officials have not been notified, but high stocks in the region support a roughly one fifth cut. Final county allocations will follow stock levels and factors. farmers welcome the prospect to switch land to fertility-building crops as prices remain weak.
