4-H Speaking Contest Held Across Seven Counties
The District timely topic contest took place in Da vid City on Friday February 20 with seven counties represented. Seven girls and six boys participated. Sheralee Hill of Polk earned a blue ribbon for 4-H Past Present and Future. Lois Wild of Saunders was chosen to advance to the State Contest with The Sixty Four Dollar Question. Frank Jacobs of Douglas won the boys contest with Savings, edging Duane Schmit of Butler.

The Kramer High Band of Columbus performed at the Osceola Auditorium in cream and maroon, 70 members strong under a skilled director. They played symphony movements to boogie, showcased five baton twirlers, Dean Bushnell’s cornet solos, and a cornet trio, earning praise from a glowingly receptive audience. The event was hosted by the local Legion Auxiliary.

Funeral services for Gilbert Hotchkiss were held Wednesday afternoon at Kepner Funeral Home with Rev. G A Randall officiating. Burial followed in Osceola Cemetery. He was the son of George Hotchkiss and died in Hastings Nebraska Sunday February 22 at age 30 years 11 months and 13 days.
