Shelby Woman Dies After Long Illness
Anna Ward Hill was born December 2, 1867 in Bethlehem Ontario. She lived in Detroit most of her life before marrying John S. Hill in Shelby Nebraska on April 26 1886. The couple farmed north of Shelby eleven years then moved to town. A member of the Episcopal church in Canada she joined the Methodist Episcopal Church in Shelby and supported the Dorcas Society and the Eastern Star serving as Worthy Matron. She died February 17 1930 after several years of poor health. Burial will be in Shelby Cemetery with Eastern Star interment.

Funeral services were held Monday for John F. Anderson 82 a resident of Polk County. He was vice president of the First National Bank and owned farms near Swede Home and in Deuel County. He died Friday after illness at Letterant hospital in York. Survived by wife two sons Eskal and Fred A. Anderson and daughter Edna plus brother N P Anderson. Rev Alfred Trued officiated at Swedish Lutheran Church service.

The Nebraska game, forestry and parks commission bought Cottonmill Lake, three miles west of Kearney, from United States Trust Company for 4000 dollars. The lake, once the water power for a major cotton mill, will become a public fishing and recreation site with fencing and landscaping planned. Buffalo County Sportsmen’s League helped stock the lake and the commission aims to conserve the area as part of Nebraska’s park system.

About seventy five depositors of the defunct Osceola Bank met Friday night led by Edith F. Hope to form The Depositors League of the defunct Osceola Bank. Hope also organized depositors of Farmers State Bank of Stromsburg and Bank of Polk and Farmers State Bank of Polk. The group set up a resolutions committee to address Representative R L Minnick and Senator Perry Reed and an investigation panel to probe no dividends since bank takeover and possible preferred payouts during the Guarantee Funds Commission period.
